Cowboys only road win in 1999 in an 8-8 season where they made the playoffs as the 5-seed & got trounced by 4-seed Minnesota (Wild Card, Tampa was the 2 as NFC Central division champions) Washington won the NFC East, beat Detroit in the 3-6 matchup, lost in Tampa on a bobbled snap at the gun Rams went from worst to Super Bowl champion by stopping the Titans a yard short of a touchdown

Brennan McKinney It also the return of the Browns to the NFL. It was the last season for Dan Marino as QB of the Dolphins His last win: a 20-17 win at AFC West winner Seattle at the long destroyed Kingdome His last game: The Jaguars - as the AFC 1-seed - curbstomping the Dolphins 62-7. It was over at the end of the first quarter Jimmy Johnson went back to the Fox pre-game show Peyton Manning made his first playoff appearance. The 2-seeded Colts were upset by the Titans - led by Eddie George, Steve McNair, & Jevon Kearse coming off the Music City Miracle pulled off by Frank Wycheck to Kevin Dyson. Jacksonville was 14-2 that season. Their 2 losses were to the Titans. They lost the AFC Title to... the Titans Rams & Titans played each other in Tennessee earlier in the year. The Rams came away with a 24-21 win. In the Super Bowl, the Rams jumped out to a 16-0, but George & McNair responded with 16 unanswered to tie the game up Warren to Bruce at the 2 minute mark put the Rams up 7 McNair put together one hell of a drive including the scramble and a pass on the next to the last play Final play, 7 yards to go for TD. McNair to Dyson on a slant in. Can he get in? No he cannot! Mike Jones made The Tackle. Super Bowl XXXIV was one of two Super Bowls to feature zero turnovers (the other: XXV, Wide Right).

Aikman got hurt during the season and Garrett started a couple of games. I know one of them was a home win against the Packers (Favre could never beat the Cowboys at Texas Stadium for some reason) and the other was a road loss to the “we suck again” Cardinals where Gailey botched the end game strategy. Seemed like a lot of road games were like that in 1999 Having Irvin would’ve made a difference in some of those road losses (1-7 on the road, only road win that season was the OT winner at Washington). The other factor: all those post-Jimmy drafts were catching up with them as well no viable replacements for players lost to injury (Novacek, Moose), old age (Bates), or free agency (Harper, Norton, Washington).

If Michael Westbrook would have ditched his attitude problems and stopped fighting other team members , like Stephen Davis, etc, they could have been a good team. Amazing how Ismail is just sprinting down the field with his head looking at the end zone and then suddenly he turns his head back and the ball falls into his hands. Aikman was so good at timing the receivers knew the exact moment to look for the ball. Irvin often talks about Aikman's timing and pinpoint accuracy that would hit Irvin in the hands as he turns on his break. Aikman throws the ball before Irvin is even turning. That said, you forget just how good Irvin was until you see him playing. The guy was so good that even against Green and Bailey he would work until he found a weakness and then he'd exploit it. You make keep him out of the game for a while, but in most cases, by the end of the game, he's figured out a way to beat you.

@@GrantYT18 Sorry, I forgot to write a reply much earlier. Yeah, the Cowboys look like the best team in the NFC right now. They're always entertaining, that's for sure. Too bad people dislike them. My team is actually the Patriots, another hated team. I don't consider myself a bandwagoner, though, even though I'm not from the New England area. I began rooting for them when I was 8 back in the 2000s, because I admired the way they played and how they carried themselves. So far the NFL landscape is looking favorable for both of those teams. I won't be surprised if they meet in the Super Bowl--it would shatter ratings records, I bet.

Happened to see this on my homepage. The 1999 Redskins was one of my favorites. Brad Johnson was a great pickup via trade. Michael Westbrook and Albert Connell had 1K yards apiece. Stephen Davis had 1405 YDS with 17 TDS in first year, as a starter. Champ had a great rookie campaign. Needless to say, we won a playoff game.

19:03 an unfortunate omen for the 99 Redskins.

I was at this game back in ‘99. I was 9 years old and was wearing an aikman jersey and a .99 cent ying yang necklace I had bought at a vending machine earlier that day before the game that I said was lucky. Two drunk redskin fans in front of me tried to buy it from me for $100 and threatened to fight my dad. One of the best days I can remember. Sports make memories and we need them back ASAP. Prayers to all affected from the corona virus.

Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. This was right after Little Danny bought the team and was one of the last games I ever watched of theirs. It was the beginning of the end of the Redskins.

Even after the Super Bowl rings/years when Dallas was a shell of the team they once were to start the 90s, Dallas still owned Washington. The rivalry as of the 2021 season, the Cowboys have won over 2/3 of the games played in Big D with a 40-17-2 record, of which Washington has a 48% winning percent in Our Nation’s Capital with a 30-33.

In 1999 Dallas still had the structure on offense to win, but the defense was a shell of what it was 4 years prior and the coaching was in horrible disarray. Plus, Jones was used to just spending whatever he had to in order to have the best players possible. While Dallas had enough talent to win in 1995, they were not good with the cap, which had begun the year before. Once players began to leave, Jones could no longer just pay the most to keep or bring in talent, but he tried anyway and that got Dallas into trouble as they couldn't stay under the cap, which decimated the defense as they had to let players go in order to stay under. It took a good 10 years for Jones to get used to the cap. Frankly, the salary cap was supposed to create parody, which it didn't do. Once everything settled down and teams learned how to deal with the cap, pretty much the same teams were on top and the same teams were on the bottom. No matter how much Cleveland was helped, they just seemed to flounder or find a way to screw things up year after year. I'm not a Browns fan, but I certainly hope they take advantage of outstanding talent they have now.

This is why no matter how many points you lead by, don't ever let up on your opponent cuz they'll find a way to outplay you in any way to embarrass you and beat you just like that home or road
