The Rocketeer is a perfect film! The direction is fantastic, pacing is great, story is cohesive, all the characters are fleshed out well and everything that's set up pays off. That's all in a tidy 100 minutes. Yes the effects have dated but the look and feel is absolutely timeless. Honestly that helmet design is a work of art. May Dave Stevens rest well!!

I noticed that one of the recent posters for Blue Beetle was actually a homage to that cool, art deco-inspired poster they created for The Rocketeer. Apparently the director Angel Manuel Soto is a big fan of the movie and has often included little nods to it in his previous movies such as La Granja, Charm City Kings, and La Última Cosecha. The name of that last one specifically being a reference to the original title for The Rocketeer which was of course, Blue Harvest… coincidentally also the working title for the original 1977 film “Star Wars”.

During Raphael's finishing lines in TMNT 2007, the phrase "We strike hard and fade away into the night" was used. That was also the ending line in the first TMNT comic. Also, the very last line, "I love bein' a turtle!" has been said in the live-action movies and 2003 series opening up till season 4.

Fun Fact: One of the planes in the film was repurposed into a crop-duster for the film Independence Day (1996). The aircraft was repainted several times, but one that stuck for awhile during early production was a beautiful cerulean, which led to that film being codenamed "Blue Harvest".

I loved this movie decades ago and still do. The cast's great, it's a lot of fun, I was sad we didn't get more, but at least we got to see a Nazi Timothy Dalton get punched. It's also probably one reason I had a hard time adjusting to Dalton as Bond when I finally saw those movies (and no problem adjusting to him as Simon Skinner in Hot Fuzz) because this is the first of his films I ever saw (as a kid) so I will forever think of this character first. Similarly, this is the first thing I saw featuring Terry O'Quinn (that I can remember), so seeing him on Milennium and later Lost, I would always think "hey, it's Howard Hughes!". Did not feel that way with Billy Campbell, though - something about adding a beard to that man's face and he looks completely different, took me years to realize he was the Outrageous Okona in TNG or Jordan Collier in The 4400. That list of potential stars is wild (not surprising, given how it tends to be) but I think Dennis Quaid & Alec Baldwin could've delivered passable (if dull) versions of Cliff while...I want to see the Michael J. Fox version. OH MY GOD! Mason referenced Condorman, one of my favourite films for no good reason! It's not a good movie, but it had an indelible impact on me at a young age. Now I want it covered in Caravan of Garbage so much. I'm looking forward to the continuation of this loose series within Caravan of Garbage, as I quite enjoyed The Shadow & The Phantom (Shadow more, I still quote "only the Shadows knows" from time to time). Then again, I was probably in the demographic they wanted: kids with little to no money, especially since they spent a bunch buying Dick Tracy toys.
