I’d like to know more about what happen with clan chiefs after the British government took their power and authority away. I mean yeah they kept titles, but what else happened? Those that didn’t have titles of nobility and that we’re simply a clan chief, what was the life of a clanchiefor after say Culloden? On top of that, what could potentially be the future of clan chiefs? As the world changes do clan chiefs have a future other than being somebody who represents a name and an extended ideology that basically doesn’t go much further than pan Celtic ideology and Highland games?

@straycat1674, great questions! What constitutes a clan and do they exist today? If not, then being a chief doesn't mean much. I know that clan associations and societies exist today but I'm not sure that clans do, not in the way they did in the 1600's.

@@thescottishclans I think in a basic and insignificant way they do. But Clan Chiefs are just ceremonial figure heads with zero power or authority unless they own land with actual tenants on it. Then their authority is limited to that of any landlord. But the future, who knows. I believe that eventually the monarchy and titles of nobility will become extinct. But because of the global love and ideology of clans, clan chiefs will hold importance and some form of relevance for some time to come. And as the world evolves, if it devolves then I think their position will start to have some meaning again.
