The greatest rock album by anybody ever. Not just the Stones. This is the great masterpiece of the entire 70 years of Rock 'n' Roll history. If you don't believe me, listen to the whole thing again. When I die, I will direct that Exile on Main Street be played at my Memorial, AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE!

Absolutely the Pinnacle of The Stones greatness. Plowed under a mountain of drugs at a chateau in France. Writing and recording at all different times and yet still delivering this somehow cohesive masterpiece. Only the Rolling Stones could have crafted this. Possibly the greatest Rock & Roll record ever made.

I'm going to vote for Sticky Fingers as the greatest Stones LP. I love this album but, Sticky Fingers is a more cohesive collection that has not a single weak moment.
@peterblack36654 ай бұрын
I agree even though music magazines torched the album the fans bought it . I believe it’s length was one of the factors . People were not ready to devote the time required to listen to and flip double albums......the fact they did not use all the extra songs on their next album Goat’s Head Soup is extremely strange. They basically had one side of another album done and ready to go ??
@peterblack36654 ай бұрын
@@pc7135you cannot compare this double Lp to the single album effort of Sticky Fingers if that’s the case Let It Bleed in my opinion is better then Sticky Fingers......song for song ......

It's just "okay". The five songs that FM radio played then , Tumbling Dice, Happy, All Down The Line, Rocks Off, Sweet Virginia , were really good, interesting , dynamic songs, but the rest of it just didn't do much for me. I just don't think it needed to be a double album. But, Whatever, The Stones are great.

Some Girls and Exile on Main Street possible the best Rolling Stones albums! They were their best in the 1970’s and early 80’s. Glad they are still touring, Ronnie Wood, Keith, Mick, thank you for the music!

Upon its release the album was panned by music magazines proclaiming it was a collection self indulgent songs made to feed the Stone’s egos . There was no clear direction to the album and a double album was a lofty indulgent presentation. When Goat’s Head Soup came out Exile On Main Street was forgotten about until years later when what the Stones had actually made was a diverse collection of different style songs making up the greatest rock and roll album of the 70s . As a footnote decades later the Stones pulled out some astounding sounding songs that had been left off Exile On Main Street and had not even been used on Goat’s Head Soup...........

Lots of hype. It's a good album, maybe even a great album, but I think the Stones have four that are better. The White Album isn't the Beatles best album and Physical Graffiti isn't Zep's best either. Think for yourself. Don't just repeat what you heard someone else say.
@9211goat18 күн бұрын
Whatever you say sir! To your point the opener here isn't top tier Stones (Rocks Off). But the album had a lotta hype from the start. Wasn't a documentary done which was all about the making of Exile?
