Brian Jones era was good too.
@fuchsiaswing8545 Жыл бұрын
@@geoffpoole483 Brian Jones era produced some of their best work: Aftermath, Between the Buttons, Out of Our Heads, and Beggars Banquet. Even when they misfired, an album like Their Satanic Majesties Request is infinitely more interesting than It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll. I love Taylor, and he was a pivotal component in the group’s sound and elevated them as a live act, but Goats Head Soup and IORNR cannot compete with the best of the Brian era.
@cmsmhp19 күн бұрын
@@fuchsiaswing8545 I agree that GHS and IORNR are not as good as the best Brian albums. Taylor does not actually play on "It's Only Rock n' Roll" (the song) - his main contribution on IORNR was Time Waits For No One, which is probably the best track on the album. But Sticky Fingers and Exile still rise above even the best Brian albums for me, and Mick had a lot to do with that.

The band was at the height of it’s powers and the fact that they survived the mess that was Altamont speaks volumes about their vitality. The media tried to blame the Stones but it was just a bad scene and shows how Woodstock was a bit of a fluke.

@@michaelbrickley2443 no. Woodstock didn't hire the Hell's Angels for security. Or pay them with cases of beer, while they were tripping on acid. The Stones' vibe was dark, Jagger in his Lucifer persona. They bear some responsibility for the tragedy that unfolded. This song is one of the best ever for getting people bopping around and so I don't understand how Wyman and Taylor could actually play it without any apparent bodily reaction.
@michaelbrickley24432 жыл бұрын
C’mon, man. They called Wyman Stone Face. He was a solid player and Mick, well, he was a player not a showman. Great player but Ronnie fits better with Keef.

When I took my daughter to see the Winos, she asked me after, how does Keith do that. He moves like a cat. Like he has no bones. Are you aware that Pete Townshend asked Keith if he could “nick” his windmill move and Keith wasn’t even aware of it. For Pete it was something you had to think about. For Keith it was just his inner motor expressing itself.

CUZ MICK TAYLOR WASN'T THE JUMP AROUND DANCE AROUND TYPE, THAT WOULD'VE TOTALLY MESSED WITH JAGGER AND HIS STYLE AS A SHOWMAN-ALL FLUID AND RHYTHM FROM TAYLOR. AS FOR BILL WYMAN, THEY DIDN'T CALL HIM "THE STOIC MR. WYMAN" FOR NOTHING...THAT GUY WOULDN'T MOVE AROUND MORE THAN A 3 FT. CIRCUMFERENCE FROM HIS SPOT ON STAGE...I THINK TAYLOR WAS BETTER THAN RON WOOD THOUGH...LOOK AT THE STONES ALBUMS TAYLOR PLAYED ON COMPARED TO RONNIE...HANDS DOWN...
@michaelbrickley24432 жыл бұрын
@@northsacmac4793 that’s because the Glimmer Twins were firing on all cylinders. They were at the height of their powers in that phase. Mick wasn’t fired, he quit and that went nowhere. The last two LP’s he was on weren’t any great shakes. That was Keef falling too heavily into his addiction. Black & Blue was the Stones making an album and recording the auditions of all the guitar players they were trying out. Some Girls was one of the greats….in the end, it is what it is.
@northsacmac47932 жыл бұрын
@@michaelbrickley2443 While you have a valid point about Its only rock and roll album being subpar, I think Goats Head Soup is fantastic- ya you're right, Taylor left on his own cuz of the drugs and partying that both Mick and Keith were doing, plus the fact that it was apparent that Jagger was trying to take the Stones into other types of music, experimenting with raggae, disco, and even some P funk parliament type stuff...But you cannot deny Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street, Taylor made solid contributions on the greatest trifecta albums produced in rock history...I wish Jagger would've just stuck with the rock and rhythm and Taylor had stayed, but like you said, it is what it is...right on and Peace...
