This beauty shows how important and vital the Stones will always be: they've taken a pretty simple proposition as song title, and out of it have crafted an emotionally complex gem. Superlative drumming from Charlie heightens the drama of Jagger's pleading, sometimes almost hysterical vocal. A landmark '60's track.
@halcyon28922 күн бұрын
Absolutely spot on about Charlie , laying down that Motown beat and that Hammond organ towards the end building it up to 11 . A classic indeed . A different vibe all together ; if you haven't already , check out Autumn Stone by The Small Faces , another beauty from the 60's .
@terencemeikle53422 күн бұрын
@halcyon289 Oh yes, Autumn Stone is gorgeous: an almost 'sparse' arrangement, where every tiny gesture counts. Incredible musicianship, and Marriott's vocal so diamond pure and warm. The accelerando with harmonica at the end is a great, unexpected touch.

beggars, let it bleed, fingers, exile, head soup, black and blue, and some girls... all better than any album the stones put out with brian.
@deeg88494 жыл бұрын
@@iheartcicada Eye of the beholder. 1- Beggars is with Brian. Strong contributions on expectations, fighting man, sympathy, etc. 2- Aftermath UK (the true version) is better then some girls Head & Blue easily. 3- The debut & Now don’t get enough respect because there is lots of covers but they are outstanding albums that influenced so many to follow (stooges, ram ones, clash, etc) They beat head and blue. 4- I’m not taking anything away from the albums you mention but your argument is flawed. You have to remember when they and others started, singles was the game. Albums didn’t come to the forefront until Dylan. Then the Beatles tried to compete with Dylan and the Stones with the Beatles. Stones got into that game in 66 with Aftermath just after the Beatles with Rubber Soul /Revolver. Plus the Stones never hit the singles charts like they did with Brian All I said was he was vital. I didn’t knock the others. Why are there those whenever I acknowledge Brian, they try to cut him down? (Like he didn’t contribute)

It was Christmas 1980, and my big sister, me,and my little brother heard this song come on the radio while we were in the back bedroom of my fathers house. We screamed and ran to down the hall to the livingroom to turn the radio all the way up. The following March, on a Sunday, he had an accident and passed away that day. My family imploded from his death. I still mourn him. This will always be our song.
