He left us way way to soon.... Charlie as chilled out as usual with the sticks.... I envy anyone who saw this outfit in concert in their 1960s hayday truly mind blowing.... Visionary , multi-talented natural virtuoso on any instrument he picked up. Listen to his Moroccan indigenous music album : Joujouka the Pipes of Pan . He was inquisitive about all kinds of music and introduced a new facet into Stones' music catalogue : the sitar , dulcimer , flute , marimba. etc. Just as the Beatles expanded their repertoire from pop to thematic albums , Brian would have taken them in new directions , not just R & B , Psychedelia or pop , but perhaps classically -tinged experimental pieces , fusing rock , blues and indigenous elements . We'll never know.

He was GORGEOUS IN PERSON, THAT SMILE- I know because- crap, giving away my age- I was only 2, my sister took me to that club- can't remember the name, run by Giorgio Gomelsky? I jest. I was 12 or 12, had on a new dress, my mom made, a knock off from Caroline Charles, new white lace stockings! The stockings got a huge hole in them when a riot broke out- a tiny Canadian city I heard Bill Wyman make a snide quip about- the Canadian penchant for naming everything after England except in Quebec - anyhow, the PO-leece, didn't anticipate the true popularity of "these hairy, lazy, weirdos" ( wanna-be's with pot bellies etc) they nearly knocked over the ridiculously cheap picket and wire sort of fence- the "mob" began moving chairs as soon as the opening act left the stage- there was a lull of suspended anticipatory disbelief- I can still sort of feel the impending EXCITEMENT! That's how I heard Bill's remark, then the screaming....about 5 songs in, the crowd started to push forward- I am 5'2", then about 90lbs, and some "giant" in Cuban heel boots with a "Bill Bob" shoved me digging his heel into the stockings, big hole in my heel, blood! The POleece are freaking, Mick is trying to diplomatically calm EVERYBODY down- but still, Hicksville, REMOVED THE BAND, YEP, THE WEEKS OF ADOLESCENT AGONY!!!! WASTED, so much for "wet dreams" see The Fugs, First Album? BRIAN GOT ANNOYED WITH THEM AND AS HE WAS BEING HALF SHOVED OFF THE POKEY STAGE HE TRIED TO RESIST AND ARGUE, NICELY TO SAID COP AND SMILE AT US FRAUGHT WITH ANGST, GIRLIES- I got ahold of his jacket! Corduroy? That SMILE, HE WAS GORGEOUS AND EVEN THOUGH I WAS A MESS, SMEARED MASCARA, PIMPLES, THAT SMILE, HE WAS SWEET TO ME- I staunchly refused to let go, my heel was really bleeding and the giant with the Bill Wyman Bob was being an ignoramus, trying to flatten me and grab Brian's jacket and Brian would have no part of that- in my attic, there sits, atop mountains of Christmas decorations, unfinished knitting- a scarf for Mick! I jest, half done "thingeys" - I'm half stoned from melatonin my sleep cycle is arse over tea kettle- doesn't work- no wonder their emotions fray, their relationships frazzled etc- sleep is more important than young people realize- my attic is divided up into TV area, library mess, and Stuff Mess- I use Edward Gorey drawings to navigate, BRIAN - A GORGEOUS COLOUR PICTURE FROM AN ENGLISH POP MUSIC MAGAZINE A FRIEND SENT ME WHRN I WAS "EXILED" TO MONTREAL! I gave a huge amount of collectible? stuff to a bigger fan than myself in the late 1990's- I stopped buying their albums except for the ones, Bill and Keith released on their own, bought Charlie Watts jazz quintet CDs. Bernard Fowler is a dream- that photo of Brian - I stuck it on cardboard and it sat on velvet surrounded by dried flower petals and incense, an altar for several years after he died- I won't part with it until The End. ( I think the rest of The Stones, should keep quiet about him and probably Bill too- he had his flaws, we all do. Jagger shouldn't talk where "womanizing" is concerned- IMHO. I am not musical, bit tone deaf but I LOVE ALL GENRES- I really can go from Beatles to Bach as they used to say- thanks to people like Brian, his love of The Blues and his knowledge, I have a very eclectic music library, not as big as I'd like- always been skint! I saw the Stones many years later, in Toronto- got a long, incredible show, lousy seat and I slept in a car overnight for tickets too! No Brian- Mick Taylor I guess- I was so engaged in Mick's gyrations and cape? I don't recall- that "empty" spot- they may not have missed Brian Lewis? Jones, but I did...Namaste from A Slightly Less Hick Canadian City, not, sadly, Montreal....

I saw the first gig he played that guitar at in the UK. First appearance in UK after returning from the US after It’s All Over Now was released. Five days later I saw Little Richard at the same venue. Great days for someone who was only 14 the month before, living in a town with only 30,000 inhabitants. Made possible by the fact it was a seaside resort which despite its small size had a dance hall which held 5,000, which not many did in those days, and made it possible to attract the top names of the time. Wish I could whizz back in a time machine to relive those days.

Bill Wyman was so underated as a bass player, listen to his blues soul and some jazz with his side group when he left the stones and his solo stuff , he as well as Mick, Keith, Charlie, and also the underated Brian Jones, so when you mention early Stones yup they were all talented.

Realmente espectacular. La canción fue de ellos, no solo la interpretación. Viví en Inglaterra durante los años 60: ví los Beatles, Aminals, Searchers, Tom Jones, Manfred Mann, .... , pero nunca, en esa época, los Stones.

Early Stones smooth action steady beat and whole act defines cool and still at it
