Whole album was recorded in the musty basement of a house called Nelcotte (sp?) that Keith Richards rented in France, where the band escaped to escape the 90% taxes the Brits were levying on them. The mixing was mostly done in a portable studio on board a truck outside on the yard. The crude set up, along with their tendency to record in the wee hours of the morning, (after heavy partying no doubt!) gave this album an incredibly raw feeling, which is really the essence of the Stones after all, and made it such a rock and roll classic. To many, it’s considered the best album in rock and roll history.

This is true for much of the album, but there were tracks recorded after they left France. Just Want to See His Face is such a track, written and recorded after Billy took Mick to a church in LA.

Thanks to you guys ... listening to tracks have not given much recent time to ... this whole album was always stellar, but has aged really well. This was always a kind of throw-away track in the past, but today, and a big part is your two's appreciation, it is really strong. This one has some deep nuggets--Casino Boogie, Just Want To See His Face, Soul Survivor, Sweet Black Angel--kind of glossed over in the past. Keep marching, dudes.

4 great albums in a row.. starting in 1968 with Beggars Banquet and all the way through Let It Bleed in 1969, Sticky Fingers in 1971 and finally Exile On Main Street in 1972… just a stunning flash of creativity and drugs and sex and rock and roll 😎

This double album is one of the great recorded masterpieces…the whole story of how it went down is amazing. It’s so versatile, yet maintains this amazing raw and almost chaotic sound throughout the whole piece. Making it sound very consistent and coherent. The whole thing sounds like it came from the dirty gritty south. They channeled that sound perfectly although it was British cats recording in France

Garth Hudson passed on 1/21/25. He was the organ player for The Band. Chest Fever is one of the funkiest organ driven songs ever. I think you will love it, but be prepared, it sounds nothing like any of the other Band songs you have reacted to so far. Reacting to it would honor him.

This whole album has a garage-band sound. With some songs, like this one, you can't really understand any of the words. Other songs have clearer lyrics. I particularly like Shake Your Hips, Tumbling Dice and Sweet Virginia.

Most over rated band . Copied blues and tried to show some respect to the originators, but they had few great songs, IMO
@fuchsiaswing85459 күн бұрын
No offense, but you seriously have no idea what you’re talking about. They didn't “copy” blues. They appropriated it and made it their own thing. Whether it was in their deep forays into Americana, psychedelia, baroque pop, Eastern classicism, music hall, or whatever other musical style they ventured into, the Stones always did it with originality. Everything they did - and they were never boxed into one musical category - is uniquely Stonesy. This idea that they were mere copyists is absurd. As for Exile, show some respect, for it is the dingiest, swampiest, dirtiest, most debauched exploration of Americana put on record.
