I wouldnt say its the most important bike to hit the planet since MotoGP went four stroke, really its just a DETUNED version of what was available 25 years ago but with fuel injection.... Still a nice bike though and Id love to have a ride :)

Jai Alcorn You can't buy 500cc 2 strokes anymore. Nothing that passes emission levels. Trust me, this is important. You must not know about Honda's prototype 700cc 2 stroke then.....  Also, since when did road legal 500's have 160bhp 25 years ago? This is NOT *DETUNED* at all.

There are a lot of fast 2 strokes out now a days, well and have been. The snowmobile and personal watercraft have been turning some big hp. Aaen’s v-4 ,PSI’s triples, The Crank Shop , BRC Racing, and a hell of a lot of other people. I love em! Direct injection is the way to go, or it seems to be. Keep up the good work!

Technically, it is not a V4, it is two inline twins, in one engine body, each with its own crank shaft. Official page, on ''technics'' tab, says clearly ''two counter-rotating crank shafts'' .Yamaha used to make them this way, in YZR500, so engine-wise it is more like a Yamaha YZR500 and not a Honda NSR500.

I want to believe... but so many people have tried to build a big 2T track bike and have failed. Unfortunately history makes me think that it will end up being another expensive pipe dream. Or at least so expensive that for the majority it may as well not exist at all.

Im as big a two stroke fan as any, but since there is no longer the need to fit into the 500cc class, why not make it a 750cc or better still 1000cc? That way would easily get 220-250HP at the rear wheel and it would actually be very smooth and reliable to boot!

They have before. Except that with current technology it would not be usable at all.

tolikechicken and Dylan Saey You both couldn't be further from the truth, it would actually be more rideable. Its a misconception that two strokes have to be vicious unridable beasts, they can be tuned from the smooth torquey tractor like powerband of a trials bike to a vicious light switch of an 80cc motorcross bike. Its all in the tunning. increasing the capacity from 500 to 750 would allow designers to achieve similar if not more power from a milder state of tune. They already have much larger two strokes in snow mobiles, jet ski's and outboard engines.. The other thing is they are using direct injection with these and to get very clean running with low emissions and almost no smoke... Watch this space!

Jai Alcorn true that...I have a yammie rd350 the ports are custom cut and tuned with the help of a simulator the powerband starts at around 3k and goes all the way to peak at 7.5k and the red line is at 8.5k rpm... it has so much torque that you can easily cruise without strain at 3k rpm in 6th gear

+Gils Gilson It's really simple to get more than 200hp from 500cc V4. Search about Ryger and you'll find out that they managed to get 70hp from 125cc 1 cylinder. Small privateer as well.

2002 NSR 500 200bhp??? Dream on you idiot!! they had max 160bhp. both the ronax and the suter engine sound crap and perform crap. a todays 500ccm 4 cylinder 2 stroke engine COULD have about 200bhp as the best 125 single cylinder kart engines HAVE about 50bhp. but it seems that suter and ronax are not able to do it. forget about 2 stroke fuel injection until it REALLY works. and forget about that ryger shit until it REALLY MAY work in 100000000000 years or so. and maybe they should have the exhaust pipes done by a GOOD 2 STROKE pipe builder and not by akrapovic....
