Fantastic cover, and your videos really displays the difference between the JM6 (stock “Meh” Yamaha Pickups & Preamp - I had the same for a bit in a 775 5-string & Fretless) and the JM2, which had a name-brand Seymour Duncan Bassline Music Man-style Humbucker & 3-band Preamp, which gave it some great low-midrange grunt that cut through the mix. ...plus, I much preferred the modern-styling beveled edges, yin-yang inlay and matte finishes vs the cheap-looking “Infinity made of Dots” and thin flame maple veneer. It’s totally understandable why he moved onto Music Man for both sonics as well as design, when they developed the Bongo 6-string especially for him, compared to Yamaha using him in a few print adverts and that’s it. (...and if you still own your Plum Purple RBX-JM2 but want to move on from it, drop me a line first. 👍🏼)

Thanks for the kind words, this bass indeed can sound like a beast. Although sometimes you can hear some great tone from the JM6 too. I personally really dig the infinity dot pattern, but each to their own I guess. But sure the JM2 looks very sleek, I really love it. Regarding my instrument, I will have to disappoint you, because now this bass is autographed by John Myung himself (check out my Trial of Tears cover), so I do not think I'd want to part ways with it.
