For the purification with water: "Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor." - Psalms 51:7 For the consecration with fire: "Incensum istud a te benedictum, ascendat ad te, Domine, et descendat super nos misericordia tua." - the old Latin Mass

@@VHFraterBT awesome thank you!! Is there one for air and earth too?
@VHFraterBT11 ай бұрын
In GD there are various prayers and workings with all 5 of the elements, but the purification with water and consecration with fire at the beginning of workings is limited to water and fire. That said, in some Wiccan practices salt is sprinkled into the water, and the incense is thought of as both fire and air, so all four elements are included in a version of the purification and consecration. By the way, I watched one of your videos - I really like how you describe "Atah" in the Kabbalistic Cross as the reminder of the True Self as one with God.
@VHFraterBT11 ай бұрын
Upon reflection, the idea of hyssop being in the water may be interpreted as earth in the water, with the fire of the incense creating a kind of sacred-smelling air... I tend to think of the first few lines of Genesis, Elohim begins "the heavens" (eth ha shamayim) and "the earth" (eth ha aretz) and the breath (ruach) moves upon the face of the waters, or "the deep." "Before" (or, perhaps, on a higher level) all the other elements, stars and so on, there is this primordial division between "earth" which seems to be synonymous at that point with the waters of creation, and "air" which is above the waters, and would I think be associated with the fire of Yod in the the greater tetragrammaton - thus earth & water, fire & air. These are just my abstract interpretations, though, not any kind of formal teaching as far as I know.

I should mention, also, in traditional GD workings those Latin prayers aren't used. Rather "I purify thee with water" and "I consecrate thee with fire" are said aloud, in the same directions and so on, at the start of many rituals. Those Latin incantations were added in around 1995 in the particular Order I was in at the time - presently they're used in probably 2 or 3 of the Orders out there, but not used in most Orders.

Very cool thank you for sharing, really enjoyed watching this. Can u explain the relevance of the Asian hangings, and yarmulke in this particular rite? Also the " hermit stroll(when u had the lantern and staff)" I am mostly ignorant/unaware of these rituals. Thx 🤗

Certainly! The kakejiku on the left side is covered with goshuins, "Red Stamps" or signatures, of 38 Buddhist temples in Japan, at least some of which are Shingon, or Japanese Vajrayana. The Kakejiku on the right has 38 goshuins of Kannon specific temples, or Quan Yin, AKA Avelokitesvara, the bodhisatva of compassion. They were a gift from a friend whose parents went on those pilgrimages, the same parents who made the kimono which you see me wearing over the white catholic priest robe. When I was with the Golden Dawn order I was in, I was the Buddhist of the bunch. After I left, I began leaning more and more in that direction. I focused on Zazen and Yoga exclusively for a couple of years which helped me to detach from the negative elements of the particular temple/order I was with. Then, I visited Japan and met Saori through mutual friends in The Source Family. Later, she came to the US and gifted me the kakajikus and the kimono, which coincided with a renewed motivation in me, leading to starting The Esoterinerd Podcast and beginning to livestream my morning rituals. This video is a remnant of one of those livestreams, sometime in 2016 or 2017. Since then, The Esoterinerd Podcast has accumulated almost 130 episodes, and I've relocated to India. Suffice to say, the temple you see in this video was my personal temple in my house, and reflected the current I was embodying at the time. In the order I was in for 18+ years, a white yamulke was used in less formal ritual work or in second order meetings, where the full nemyss was reserved for 5=6 initiations, Bornless, Requiems, and very formal working - when just doing simple workings, we tended to use the yamulke. The one I'm wearing in the video is blue, to match the kimono. This is, in part, because when I retired from the GD I was Praemonstrator at the time, and because at the time of this video I was claiming the authority of "chief adept" of my own order of one. (i.e. just me)

Your comment led me to contemplate the question: Any occultists out there who call a yarmulke a kippah?
@VHFraterBT Жыл бұрын
@@rishikesh1087 When I bought it, I called it a yarmulke. I was 12 and learning Hebrew, my stepdad was Jewish and I was prepping for a Bar Mitzvah that never happened. In the Order, we called it a kippah. :).
@rishikesh1087 Жыл бұрын
@@VHFraterBT That's pretty cool that the Order, I'm assuming maybe GD uses the Kippah word. I always thought Kippah was the Yiddish version but now I'm learning it is the other way around. Yamulke is most likely some form of Yiddish and Kippah is Hebrew. If I'm mistaken please correct me. Thank You and great video!

That part was from the conclusion of a Tantric Buddhist meditation practice which my dad taught me when I was young, it was taught to him by Andrew Da Passano (Info about Andrew can be found in Esoterinerd Podcast episodes 13, 16 & 44). I think it just felt right to say in the moment. 😊

No, this was in California. The banners and Vimalamitra statue are here with me in India, but the furniture and pillars and such, when I left in 2018 I gave them to one of the Fraters who helped build them back in 2001.

@@rishikesh1087 Alas, I don't know of any Golden Dawn style temples in India. My ceremonial magic years were 1994-2017. Once in a while I'll do some healing work, or the Requiem ceremony when a Frater or Soror I knew in the old days passes beyond the veil. I have another KZbin channel called Esoterinerd which you might enjoy, especially episode 120.

Failed alter boy turned ceremonial magician (sorry just my bad humor, but I thought it was funny). Anyways, most ceremonial magicians today were actually raised Catholic and hence the reason why they/we take so well to what ceremonial magic has to offer ;-)
@VHFraterBT Жыл бұрын
😆 Indeed! Most of my teachers were raised Catholic. I was a bit of an oddball, my dad was Tibetan Buddhist and my maternal grandma used to take me to Protestant churches occasionally. More or less to fit in, I formally became Catholic in 2007 after singing in the choir for 4 years - in a Russian Orthodox Catholic church (looks like a Russian Orthodox Church, but administrated by the Vatican... well, by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.) Definitely the chanting style in these videos was informed in part by one of my Golden Dawn teachers who was raised Catholic (who actually was an altar boy), and another who was a deacon in a Greek Orthodox church. 🙏🏻
