This is a wonderful, truly epic piece. There are a lot of treats layered into the mix of this song. Extremely unique background vocals all over the place as well as completely out-of-the-box string arrangements. By the middle of the bridge, with all of the seemingly endless modulation, I'd felt transported to an actual upside-down castle in the sky. There is a timeless quality here that makes me think that 15th Century ears would have been delighted with this (until all the key changes zapped their brains) just like it sounds "cutting edge" today. In fact, no one is even on this wavelength in modern music... yet. Unequivocal Bravo!

All the controversy over the years of people being randomly unsubscribed from channels, KZbin demonetizing videos without telling the uploader, copyright claims being out of control, and you're concerned about the View to Like ratio?
@aceash4597 жыл бұрын
DarkcIoud1111 Fair point, I once had one music video of my channel copied by someone who only put a different song in the background. Ironically, I found it out because I was one of the subscribers to that person's channel. I was meaning to write him or her a comment like 'Hmm... Nice video, it looks familiar' , but in the end, I just left it be. And when I went back to that channel 4 months later, I discovered it has been deleted. But, I learned my lesson, KZbin might not always be a safe ground, but I should never EVER forget to let some links in the description

Beautiful work! It seems so grand and timeless--and specific enough to attach to the story that inspired it (I'm guessing: haven't seen RGU) but fitting the feel and shape of a broad class of them so that anyone familiar with a few hero's journey style stories can get an idea of what it's meant to be.

It's kind of sad to know that, unless this goes viral, it'll not even reach the amount of subscribers you have. I know it'll most likely not happen, but hey. If anyone is hearing this song and thinking about watching the Utena movie as your first entry into the series, you might want to rethink that. Adolecence of Utena is a deliberate deconstruction of the anime and isn't entirely indicative of what most people love about the series. I suggest watching the anime first.

katleidoscopic Yeah? In how many units of A Song of Ice and Fire would you rate that complicatedness? A volume's worth? A chapter? The series? I do like intrigue.
@_kaleido7 жыл бұрын
It's not complicated in the sense that there are many storylines to follow but there is so much symbolism. Not just visually, the plot, the characters, the setting, etc. all represent something. If you're not paying attention you'll be totally confused

UTENA! I hear someone’s been watching some real good anime lately. Would have loved a nod to Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku, but squee’d a lot nonetheless. The mix is a tad troublesome in places, your voice gets drowned out quite a bit. Maybe pan the background vocals into the far sides of the stereo field instead of pretty much center left?
@ponyphonic7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I suppose "Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku" could've been worked into the instrumental somewhere (in 6/8 time). If I ever revisit the song, I'll try it out. The last four notes of "The Rose" are a subtle nod to the bumper/eyecatch music though, so there's that at least. Panning the BGVs might help a little. There's still a lot going on instrumentally, so it would remain a pretty busy mix. I didn't mind the vocal sinking into the music sometimes, but I'll listen again (later, when I can stand to hear it again). Eventually, I'll find someone else to do the mix/master since it's not really my strength.
@Ephrones7 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for the reply!
@Ephrones7 жыл бұрын
By “subtle nod to the bumper/eyecatcher”, do you mean the second part of the mid-episode separator of the last ~15 episodes? Btw, are you aware of the following remixes, as far as I understand by the man himself, Seazer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWPXk6Npj9loeZo kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZzIpKF8acmFZ9k Not to forget the full version of Virtual Star Embryology, where the last third is basically a giant guitar duel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpfNZZJ_ip5pbtU

Yes, that's what I'm referring to. No, I haven't heard any Utena remixes, but I'll check these out. Thanks!

@ponyphonic7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that descending bassline is pretty unmistakable, and I am a big fan of Elton. I sort of tried to change it ('cause I want to be super original all the time), but it was pretty fundamental to the song, so it stayed.

It's so cool to actually get to talk to you! Ponyphonic is, without a doubt, my favorite brony music artist! Lullaby For A Princess is even one of my top 50 favorite songs of all time! I even wrote an entire poem based on the song for my poetry class back in 12th grade; I was planning on sending it to you, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere! I emailed my the teacher of that class and he said he would look into it, but I haven't heard back from him. Also, I was wondering why Christina hasn't appeared in a Ponyphonic track for a while.
@ponyphonic7 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you! That's so great to hear :) Christina sang "Shy Heart" and a cover of "Sally's Song", our two previous recordings. Granted, that was almost a year ago, but she's appearing a fair amount, I think, and most likely will do so more in the future. And I do hope not to have any more ten month hiatuses.
