When ar23's and BFG BAJA T/A were the only wheel/tire combo. Man I love those rain gutter rangers & explorers!!! These trucks handle so well

What you forget.. These are all custom, hand made trucks.. Nothing remotely close to what we buy.

And ar23 wheels were not the only thing. Nor where bgs. I was on the rough rider program.. And still racing today

And most the trucks where A arm back then also.. Only a few i beam.. People were puting i beams on chevys to... "rain gutter" as you say.. Really doesn't mean anything... I beams were still used after the "rain gutter" body style stopped

The classes way back were Class 8 for full size V8 trucks & Class 6 for small trucks with V6 & they had to utilize "Stock Concept" suspension & built with the original frame. Trophy trucks came about in the 90s after Robby Gordon & Nelson & Nelson started puyshing the envelope in "inturprtetting the rules. Gordon & N&N started running a 4 link rear with a big 1/2 leaf spring mounted in the rear corners of the bed, unattached to the axle housing with big rollers for the spring to push against. Palmers Custom Speed(Danny Fodrill who still builds suspension parts in Phoenix) took a Ford twin I-beam front end & fabbed a spindle upright that used the I-beam for a lower arm with an upper A-Arm on top to eliminate much of the radical camber change the twin I created. I worked at a shop in the mid to late 80s that built a killer Chevy S-10 which pushed the "stock concept" about as far as possible without technically being illegal.
