Most parents want what's best for their children. I'm a grandparent. I changed the way I did everything with my kids, which was hugely distressing to my parents. Now, my kids are doing the same. Oddly enough, my father said to me, about my children and grandchildren's behaviour, At least they're happy. He saw the negative side to his methods later on. But, really, we all try to help our children as best as we can to live in the world that they'll be living in. That's constantly changing so our ideas of how to parent have to change as well. In the end, we want good, kind, empathetic individuals who can contribute to society. There are many ways to get there.

I agree with Jess Allen. We all try so hard and judge our parents for not being more considerate of our feelings, but we are ok. If it's not one thing, it will always be another. We are thinking too much and stressing out too much.

💯 agree with Cynthia. I wish I had this knowledge when I was raising my child.. they are people as well. They may be a child, but they are their own person too and their feelings, likes, dislikes should be respected

I suppose it's not a surprise that I agree with Jess most, I don't have kids, but being on the outside all my life gives me objectivity. Kids also learn by example, and if an adult is disregarding/dishonouring themselves repeatedly for an ideology, that will be remembered more than the ideology. Also, often, kids do not respect adults who don't have clear boundaries, or who don't keep their word. Having said all that, I sure would have liked gentler parents, capable of apologizing.
