I can't believe this has been around for 12 YEARS and we are still selling wheelchairs that look like they escaped a nursing home and can't handle a freaking grate.
@brucecurtisonline2 жыл бұрын
The Roughrider design is open source. We encourage people to copy our designs. We sell our wheelchair for a few hundred dollars. Other companies sell their wheelchairs for thousands of dollars. Most inventor/entrepreneur/company owners are more interested in their invention design than building a better wheelchair for the millions of Poor persons. International charities are more interested in the lowest price for purchasing a wheelchair that they will then distribute for free to poor persons, then the quality and durability of the wheelchair. These are some of the reasons why a Roughrider wheelchair is not more publicized and distributed internationally.

@@ThatGuy-gn6co you do know the front wheels swivel right? Means no matter how much you try(if even possible) the wheels will get stuck.

When something has been around so long which could obviously be improved, you begin to wonder: Why hasn't it been improved? And then you begin to discover the lobbyists and oppositions. That's sick, but it's true.

Watch your local goodwill and other thrift stores. My small town store only gets a few per year, but I got one in excellent shape for only $25. It was missing the footrests, but they showed up a couple of weeks later for $10. The donor probably took them off to fit it in the car and the store staff got confused.

I live in Portland OR and not all roads have sidewalks or if they do they are rough angled due to roots from trees. I am new to using a wheelchair. I am using a invacare solara i got off of letgo app. I took the back off of it to help get over cracks and curbs it only has 1 wheel that comes off so getting it in a car is a hard feat. I love the look of your chair and that it glides over grates and uneven terrain. My car doesn't always work so I have to wheel 3-5 blocks to get to stores and appointments. I fight the grass and gravel and by the time I get there I am wore out. I can walk for an hour to an hour and a half but, then my feet are on fire and I am in bed for one to two days. The wheelchair is my answer to getting back into life out of bed. With little no no income and depending on donations from family I can't afford a good chair. I would be willing to vlog my life in your chair.

A wheelchair is a TOOL. It lets us do more. Sometimes it's more liberating for me than driving a car
@funfromabove97282 жыл бұрын
To be fair there is a LOT of research going towards giving us more mobility in ways that would get us upright. There are exoskeletons that can give some people the ability to walk without crutches. There's the neurolink project that's planning on bypassing the area that was damaged, literally aiming to get old pathways connected again for the first time since the accident/situation that got us injured. Though the breakthrough that gets us upright hasn't been made and made available, there is still research and development being done, pushing us towards an upright life once again.

Shame these weren't thought of many years ago. They could have made many people's lives much more easier to get about. But, one thing is this video shows a person in one of these vastly improved wheelchairs going down steps. But, what about going up them how do they deal with them. As many places still don't have any ramps for wheelchairs & mobility scooters. So, how do people deal with getting UP steps of any type or style. ALL!!! buildings regardles of their age should have ramps & at least 2 fully working big enough lifts to acommadate even a a very large mobility scooter if necessary. These disabled are still human beings & are entitled to access buildings NOT BLOODY STEPS & STAIRS!!!! 😠😠😠😠😡😡😡😡😡👎👎👎👎
@brucecurtisonline2 жыл бұрын
You are completely correct in your complaint. However, the cost of implementing the complete access that you are describing into all buildings, is astronomical and is not supported at all by local or national politicians.

@@brucecurtisonline Well you & i well know as to how extremely tight fisted the government is. When it comes to needs they simply can't be bothered. Unless it is filling their pockets & bank accounts. & that mainly goes for the Tories. But, that doesn't go to say the others would be exactly the same tightfisted. ( Liberal, SDP, Labour , etc, etc ). What i am saying as long as they get what they want sod us. & that is a fact & will always continue to be that way unfortunatly & sadly.

I've seen a couple of KZbin videos of people getting up stairs. They have mad skills and custom fitted chairs that let them do wheelies for tens of meters and go up a curb.
