The town of Tailem Bend, located on the river Murray and some 55 miles east of Adelaide, South Australia, was the site of a roundhouse and locomotive depot that housed the steam power that serviced the nearby Murray lands as well as regions further to the southeast of the state. As a result, a variety of locomotive types and sizes were stored there.
On January 28th, 1952, a group of rail enthusiasts travelled from Adelaide to Tailem Bend to tour the facilities that the railways maintained there. This video shows some scenes of their tour as they examined the various locomotives they found housed at the depot.
The scenes are remastered from old 8mm, black and white film, recorded with a hand-held movie camera. As a result, there is no audio track on this video.
The rail fans' journey from Adelaide to Tailem Bend can be viewed in a companion video on this channel: “500 Class Locomotives, Part 1: Scenes from the 1950’s”. The link is • 500 Class Locomotives,... .
