Weld the pulley on the alternator, there's a clutch in it designed to disengage at high RPM for fuel economy and power.

The clutch was designed to let the alternator continue spinning when the engine suddenly decelerates. With the voltage drop only occuring under vtec, I'm unsure if that's the issue.

@@drpizzaeater I would agree on that, put equal length on a boxer and it sounds like a normal engine. Also how the cylinders merge makes a big difference in sound, like 1 with 3 and 2 with 4 or 1 with 4 or 2 with 3. I had to do 1/4 and 2/3 on a 1.3L running motorbike quad carbs to get them equal length for the engine bay size, sounded totally different than others with same setup minus my exhaust.

My guess for the intake air temperature sensor, is that the air density changes with temperature. It needs to know what the air temperature is, to adjust for the density, so I can properly phase the cam based on air density. Less dense air needs more time to fill the cylinder with the same volume. More dense air need less time to fill the cylinder with the same volume. At least from a physics and science standpoint, that's likely what's going on.

The intake temp sensor is used because if the air is too cold or too hot then adjusting the cam phaser position can cause pre detonation or spark knock. So it locks out the cam adjustment until it has some sort of signal. Funny enough once it has the signal you can tune it to allow adjustments under any tempature but not having a signal at all will lock it out

Not bad at all bro! I had overcharging issues on my last dyno tune. I made it up to 385 whp before my alternator started charging up to 19 volts at 8500 rpm. I put a stock alternator in it and no more issues. My built LSVTEC made 612 whp at 22.5 psi.

Just a guess, but it probably uses the temp gauge as an air density reference point. Depending on the temperature of air determines how much fuel you can burn, for the ECU programming, the temperature variable changes how much fuel can be burned. It's like a chemistry thing with exothermic reactions, octane related stuff I'm sure. Significant air temperature differences can cause differences in lean/rich condition. I wish I was more educated to answer in a way that makes sense. You know how altitude changes fix mixture for carburetors, this is similar.

For the alternator you either have belt slippage, or your alternator is too small for the plugs and ignition timing. It might help to add a large capacitor with very low equivalent series resistance in parallel with the battery. It will provide on demand surge current for the ignition and won't load the alternator as much. You can use the same capacitors they install with large subwoofers.

AIR INTAKE TEMP. If you know the intake air temp and the compression ratio of the engine you can calculate what the temperature of the air will be after compressing it. It can reach ignition temperatures if over compressed.(diesel style ignition)So you can reduce cam angle at higher intake air temperatures and avoid detonation by reducing intake air volume.

The Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT) monitors the temperature of the air entering the engine. The engine computer (PCM) needs this information to estimate air density so it can balance air air/fuel mixture. Colder air is more dense than hot air, so cold air requires more fuel to maintain the same air/fuel ratio.
