Marianela Nuñez and Matthew Ball dance the elegant pas de deux from Frederick Ashton's A Month in the Country.
Ashton gracefully reimagines Turgenev's play A Month in the country as a one-act ballet where all the drama unfolds in the family's living room upon the arrival of dashing young tutor. Characters come in and out, their feelings for one another displayed through solos and pas de deux, highlighting Ashton's talent for playing out complex drama through detailed and intricate choreography.

People are commenting on the superb dancers, but this piece also shows what an absolute genius Fred was.

I agree. He was a genius and this, for me, is one of the most beautiful pas de deux ever choreographed . Plus a very talented pianist.

@@alisonbrown2614 It was Fred's choreography that led to the development of the Royal's style of soft, lyrical dancing with acting ability. Look at Vadym, fabulous technique but lacking ability to portray drama, compared to Matthew, who gives a complete performance on stage. His interpretation of Albrecht (with Yasmine Naghdi as Giselle) left me in floods of tears.

I agree. Mathew and naghdi are my favourite. He has incredible acting skills

@@jillgooner Yes, and he'll only get better. I'm looking forward to following his career and seeing him again in Mayerling after a few years have gone by.

@@larhumba4233 I wish I'd seen Matthew in Giselle. I saw a dress rehearsal of Mayerling and was very happy to have seen him in the title role. He's so young to dance this part but I know he'll only improve with age and experience. For me, Vadim can act very well but if other's do it better, his complete technique and his likeable personality, make up for it. And of course, he makes Marianela happy as her partner, and that's a bonus in itself!

Oh that is a tear jerker thats for sure. Definitely need more of them together. Shes sublime and hes sex on legs. Im in love with him not just because hes hunky but a great actor i think more so than vadim but also he is simply an exquisite dancer. Ill have to check to see if its on dvd as i still like to collect the greats and have them to hand when i feel like it. 😊

@@jillgooner Yes, I agree, Matthew has sublime technique, but I would put him up as a better actor than Vadim, his Giselle, the acting was amazing. I think he really captures a character so well, I love to watch him. Nela is my favourite dancer, so if he were to be partnered more with her I would see a lot more of him!

So interesting to see Nela and Matthew together There is intensity in their response to each other with this choreography. It would be fascinating to see them together again. But, to me, Nela's partnership with Vadim is sublime.

Totally stunning...choreography, dancing , partnering, Chopin, of course. I have seen the full length ballet several times over the years, in NYC...it is always a delight. Thanks for posting this pas de deux with two of the very best ballet artists in the world.

Why don't these two get paired together more often? They're so good together! Obviously Nela/Vadim are perfection and my all time favorite partnership, but i'd love to see her with Matthew on a few more occasions.

I said this at the time after seeing them, they move so fluidly together and match up well artistically and in acting skills. Nela and Vadim are perfection, but I do feel there's a little more chemistry with Matthew, even when she was Myrtha and he Albrecht, I felt a lot of chemistry between them. I think they should be paired up a bit more and see what magic happens.

She is the most heavenly dancer we have at the royal and mathew is incredible,striking looks and dancing. Lucky at the moment to have so many young British talent. A great collection of wonderful dancers. Nela can dance with anyone!

@@jillgooner She is, she is such a divine dancer. I'll watch her with anyone (I've been begging for the royal to maybe pair her with Bracewell over here, other audiences have enjoyed them together) I just saw her open up the season with Don Q with Vadim and it was the most amazing night at the ballet! No words can describe it!

@@jillgooner YES!! I'e watched it quite a few times, I think they match beautifully, even their hands share the same details, and it was the first time they had partnered. I'd love to see the Grand Pas over here or at least a partnership. I had hoped for Manon because apparently they were amazing in R&J, but no...
