The Royal Ballet rehearse Cathy Marston's The Cellist

Lauren Cuthbertson, Marcelino Sambé and Matthew Ball rehearse Cathy Marston's new ballet The Cellist with coaching from Jenny Tattersall as part of #WorldBalletDay 2019.
Cathy Marston has previously been an Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House and Director of Bern Ballett. The inspiration for Marston’s first work for The Royal Ballet is the momentous life and career of the cellist Jacqueline du Pré with designs by award winning designer Hildegard Bechtler. This is Marston’s first work for the Company on the Main Stage and will be relayed live to cinemas on 25 February 2020.

I love to see how much they travel across the floor, it really shows how they're doing it full out and the different levels are so beautiful like she's gliding across the floor and then up in the air there's so much variation

Watching this a second time it's a miracle that hair clip didn't meet a face sooner. Miracle two how her hair stayed perfectly in place with a CLIP, I'll never know.

If anyone's curious, music if from Elgar cello concerto in e minor, the first movement adagio. I'm assuming it's a recording by Jacqueline du Pré since Cathy Marston stated that she's the inspiration behind this new work. I don't see why ROH doesn't list the music in the description boxes.

I admire their attempt about the amazing Dupree, they are amazing dancers but this just didnt work for me. Dupree was a sheer genius with the most tragic life an artist of her caliber could ever have. Her illness brought her life to a horrendous standstill at the age of 27 or so.

The choreography is so clunky and is at odds with the music. I am not even sure the composition is dance friendly. Hopefully it will make sense on stage.

Transitions need work. Mainly because pirate headband dude is shockingly stiff and silky black dude misses cues. Both need to learn meaning of musicality. Woman good but can't shine while the men slow on uptake. Hard music unless emotion is jistofied. Rehearsal director just doing shapes and not discussing meaning. English work.

Human Station I’ve literally seen men rehearse with their hair in rubber bands or brush combs. In another Royal Dance Rehearsal one of the male dancers were wearing rainbow leggings. When you get to this level of dance their is no dress code for just a rehearsal. Not sure why a plain white bandana is hurting you so much.
