The official name of the place we know as Taiwan is "The Republic of China." They use the national Chinese flag, officially speak Mandarin Chinese, and write in Traditional Chinese. Taiwan also operates its national flagship airline named China Airlines. They governed mainland China until 1949, were the seat of China in the UN until 1971, and still claim all mainland territories to this day. Hence, they are China, but not the China most people think of. Due to the Chinese civil war, China has two governments: one in Beijing and another in Taipei. Both parties claim all Chinese territories, including the mainland and Taiwan island. Taiwan also governs some mainland Chinese islands in Fujian province. That's why calling it "Taiwan, China" is technically correct, even if it feels weird or has some biased political views, because the island of Taiwan is considered a province of China by both governments.
