How does the 5090 power limited fare vs a power limited 4090? I remember power limiting the 4090 dropped fps by 5% when going 80% power limit so that's something else that might be worth exploring for people who will probably gimp their 5090 for thermals. Some people will buy the 5090 JUST to have display port 2.1 for their monitor (whether 4k high refresh or QHD 480 hz to avoid DSC alt+ tab blackout).

Most cards can be undervolted and then overclocked. Manufacturers make sure 100% of cards run reliable at all conditions, not optimizing every single card individually.

@@nahbro3240 The 4090 used a significantly cut-down AD102 GPU. There was quite a bit of performance headroom left for a 4090 Ti to be substantially faster. The 4090 Ti, using the full AD102 GPU, along with faster VRAM and much higher clocks, would have substantially outperformed the 4090. Probably by around 20-30% at native 4K max settings. That would have made the 5090 look pathetic. This is why people are calling the 5090 the 4090 Ti, because it technically is, lol.

Generational improvement is near 0. They have the same tsmc node, so we weren't expecting much, but instead of a good change of architecture, we got more optical tensor flows for more fake frames... I mean, ok smoothness and all, but at some point the base performance needs to improve much more. You need a good base framerate for framegen to be usable.

The undervolting is interesting, and it is the same for the 4090. Ninety-nine percent of its performance is easily achieved while only using around 375 watts. Even so, I think I will stick with the 4090 at least until the 5090 has had enough time in the market to prove its reliability. There are many areas of concern for me: the 600W power connector, GDDR7, and how well the partner cards can handle all that heat. You would need to be quite brave to be an early adopter.

Being excited about the 5090 is pointless. Anyone expecting to get one of these is a dumbass and clearly has never been part of an nvidia GPU launch. Stock is going to be very low. MSRP models will likely be non-existent. Nvidia has very little incentive to sell these as GPUs when they could sell them as AI cards with an extra ZERO added to the cost. That is where the bulk of the Blackwell chips are going. If you've sold your 4090 in the hope that you will get a 5090, congratulations you have no GPU for a while.

I play games on a 4k120Hz OLED TV and for me the 5090 is not worth it at all compared to my 4090. MFG is not useful at 120Hz imo and the increased powerdraw will make my room too hot not just in the summer but most of the year. Add to this that the msrp of the 5090 is 35% higher than what a gave for my 4090 (also msrp) 2 years ago where I live. I have also yet to play a single game that I couldn't get a really good image quality, graphics and framerate on my 4090. This said, glad to see someone testing OC on the 5090 I only wished you would compare it to an OC:ed 4090 as it would better represent the jump in performance someone interested in OC:ing would see going from a 4090 to a 5090.

yeah definitely, if you only have 120 hz don't get it. if you have like a 360 hz monitor tho, you could probably go from 120 fps to 360 without much input lag

Problem with this review and many is it mainly/mostly focus on game play and totally ignore that GPUs are not only used for gaming. Note, Nvidia even placed on the box... AI, that's the future. It's also for productivity work and there is a massive improvement is seen on this release.

@@mrbabyhugh alot can be attributed to the VRAM though. I'm sure you can, with some degree of work get flux movies made at a 5:1 time ratio with good results.
