Brilliant song from a brilliant band. Most people only remember them for Sugar Baby Love but they were so much more than that.

Indeed they were! No wonder film critic (and part-time rockabilly musician) Mark Kermode rates them so highly. They spreadeagled The Eagles with this country-rock gem.

The Rubettes worked extra hard on making Baby I Know a hit. They sorely needed one after more than 2 years away from the UK Top 10 but this country Pop beauty placed them back in the Top 10 where they belonged. Sadly it would prove to be their final UK hit single. Never mind. Their legacy is secure. Over a dozen international hit singles between 1974 and 1980 and 8 marvellous albums for future generations to discover and enjoy!

Tony Thorpe was probably The Rubettes finest singer but Alan Williams and John Richardson have stellar voices too! Baby I Know was their last big UK hit, reaching the Top 10 in 1077. Albums such as Baby I Know and Sometime In Oldchurch are hidden gems, showing a transition from their earlier faux 50s style to a more contemporary 70s Country Pop/Soft Rock sound.

i always liked alan williams the most the frontman john Richardson the way they look the two most charismatic etc not fair. i know. but thony is a verry good singer. i like alan williams the most cant help it. but i think that thony Thorpe deserved more credits than he get he hat to leave the band. they ask him to leave. he hat no choice he wanted more country music the others didnt want that. i saw a verry old intervieuw with thony talking about his time with the rubdttes. not nice from the group working for so manny years together that he hat to leave. but that is his side of the story. but how ever i like the rubettes the glam rock they still perform alan to.

This was the main difference between The Rubettes and their colleges MUD. While MUD pretty much stayed the the same for their entire career, The Rubettes progressed as a band, developing a new, more mature style as they went on. It looked as if they had ditched the 50's-inspired pop and dress for a Country-Rock hybrid. However, once Tony Thorpe left they slowly reverted back to nostalgia. Not completely, as they have produced some fine, underrated newer songs, but I guess they knew where the money was and what most audiences labelled them as.
