This is my absolute favourite Rubettes song. Alan's voice is enough to give you goosebumps. He's one handsome man, sexy looking and a fantastic voice to go with it. Still love listening to them now. You can't beat the 70's for great groups and fantastic music ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The really disappointing thing is that Alan didn't sing on the actual record. This is just a live version from TOTP. It really upset me when I found out that he wasn't the actual singer to my favourite song. There was a whole scandal over it back in 74. Crazy!

@TheGreatPretend No matter what he's still a fantastic singer. If you read the story properly. They originally recorded it but it was out for whoever wanted to record it, but nobody else wanted to it so The Rubettes brought it out themselves

@@sandraharding2624 Yes it's mad. It was originally written for Showaddywaddy but they 'thankfully' turned it down. I just can't imagine them singing it. The song was actually promoted to the BBC two months prior to the formation of the Rubettes, but they weren't interested due to there being no band fronting the record. It wasn't until the producers discovered nobody were interested that they asked session musicians who recorded track including Paul da Vinci to get together as a band. Sadly, all but John Richardson had to decline meaning that the rest of the band mimed. It would definitely be true to say that the Rubettes band sold the song, and without them, Sugar Baby Love would likely have seen no success!

This is Alan singing. The Rubettes had to re record the song due to TOTP. Tony Thorpe was my guitar teacher at collage he told us when they went to TOTP they wanted to play live, but TOTPs wouldn't allow that so they had to go to a studio and re record the song.
