I have visited the area and found it very interesting in the vein of family Surname. It would be very interesting in exploring the association of my surname. I am English with Irish blood through my lineage. I wouldn't know how to begin to explore the history.

I've only just found your channel. Very interesting information. We looked at the Rufus Stone when we were on holiday in the New Forest once, but didn't know the whole story of the 'accident', so thank you. I will have a look at your other videos.

I like those old cemeteries, they are serene and calming. 👍👍👍

They are. I love how wild they let the grass grow too. Good for nature and good for aesthetics 😄

In the early sixties I was on a hike (navy) through the forest and came to this landmark. I leant against it to fill out my postcards for sending to New Zealand. Just a few hours later, for no reason, I came over quite sick (weak, floppy etc etc)(you know how it goes). Coincidence? Who knows; I was myself again next morning but made a mental note that if ever I go there again I shall NOT lean against the stone to write my postcards.

Wow that's a rather intriguing experience! Pleased to say, I did not touch the stone at all!

@@walkingthewyrd If you do, then do so with due respect. I think ol' Willie Shakespeare had something when he gave Hamlet words to the effect of "... there are more things in Hev'n and Earth, Horatio, etc etc" ... brrrrr~!

Lovely video as always ... But it highlighted a personal embarrassment, I've never been to the New Forest 😔🤔

Aww well if you can visit, you must! Such a beautiful place and so much history. I'd definitely recommend waiting for tourist season to be over though as it can get busy. Thanks for watching 🙂

I have the great good fortune to live here. It is beautiful. Bring your walking shoes. A good place to start is Longslade Valley and Hinchelsea Wood just north of Sway. The heather is stunning this year.

Imagine having him exhumed ! Why buy the house in the first place? I would have been very proud to have his grave in my garden.

Me too! Poor chap wanted to be buried there. I believe it's a care home now.

Yep that accidental arrow bouncing off a tree all sounds well dodgy! All very Game of Thrones...or Putinesque. Nice to see old Arthur's final resting place too...a nice wander!

Worth tracking down "The killing of William Rufus" Duncan Grinnell-Milne (1968). Goes into more detail, and an exciting read.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has changed his pipe recently. Sam went there and we visited a couple of years ago, but it was the recognisable brown pipe then. Has he been back???

I noticed a mistake ... at 0:20 you say the New Forest covers 71 acres. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than that :-)

I am named after William Rufus, so it was lovely to see your video on his undoubted murder to remove a tyrant king. Now we have a tyrant Prime Minister instead lol.
