I wish Samsung would go back to making rugged versions of their flagship phones. I think that would be reason enough to charge $1000 for a phone vs paying that much for a glass back device!

I've been getting these phones since they were Casio G'Zone branded. A lot of the reviews suggest that this is just an incremental improvement over the Duraforce 2 and it's not worth paying twice as much. I've had this phone for a couple of months now and I'm happy I upgraded. The cameras on this phone are better than on the Duraforce 2. It's still not "iPhone quality" but they are better.

@dreamcoyote3 жыл бұрын
With the weight, people should remember when comparing this to other phones that the Duraforces don't need a case. When you add an otterbox or other case to other phones, the weight is often pretty close. Our Duraforce and Duraforce 2 phone have been beaten pretty hard and survived. My kid had hers crushed by a sliding stall door slammed by a draft horse and, while it did need to be replaced (frame edges bent along the side), she called me on that phone to tell me what had happened. I love the thumb fingerprint reader. Super easy and convenient to lock and unlock. Downsides with the older Duraforce 1 & 2 is that, since they are wrapped up tight and have lots of plastic around the saphire shield, they tend to overheat. Eg if you are in the car using google maps or waze and also playing podcasts or mp3's, it will tend to overheat and shut down the screen :/ Hopefully they've done more testing on use cases like that and reigned in the beast for this version.
@randr103 жыл бұрын
I've had similar experiences with those two phones. Virtually indestructible, and even when they do break, they keep mostly working. The camera lens got scratched up on the first one and I broke the glass on the second one, but both otherwise still work fine today. I pretty much use my Pro as an MP3 player now. The Pro overheated sometimes on me, but never the Pro 2. I mount it low in the center console in the car, so it rarely gets any direct sunlight down there and stays cool no matter what I throw at it.

I don't care what people say iv had the 1 and 2 and have taken both unprotected straped to my pfd down the river countless times it always works and is nice to have a phone I have no fear of tossing on the ground. The only improvement kyocera needs is to make it float. I have atheist 3 on the bottom of the river and they pinged right up until the battery goes dead like 3 days later. Also bright color options would be nice.

I have the DuraForce Pro 2 and I had the Pro before it. Love both of them, mostly because they're reliable. Even though I scratched the hell out of the camera on the Pro, it still works fine today in spite of the fact that it got run over by my tractor. They changed the lens to the sapphire glass on the Pro 2, which makes the phone almost me-proof (I do a lot of DIY projects, work on my own cars and heavy equipment, etc.). I say almost because I got frustrated with the phone one day when it wouldn't come out of portrait mode and I smacked the back of it hard on my knee. The glass cracked when I did that from how much the case deflected when it hit my knee (phone is almost 3 years old now, so I'm not complaining at all, screen is otherwise pristine with no scratches), so I've been wanting to get a new one, but I've been holding out until Kyocera released a new rugged smartphone before doing so. One question, does this one still have the sapphire glass for the camera lens? That's a must-have feature if I'm going to be spending $900 on a phone.

Remember? I am just now being forced to "upgrade" from my Kyocera Brigadier, because Verizon will no longer support the older network (3G, CDMA) that it uses at the end of this year. It is rather beat up, and the battery is starting to go and will only last a few days now when it is on battery saver, but I was willing to work with that. I try to change my phones less often than I do presidents. Before that it was a Casio Commando (which I still miss), which was ruggedized AND had a user replaceable battery. I'm curious- did you run the battery down from 100% to 30% or less every day, then recharge? Li-Ion batteries are only rated for 300-500 full charge cycles. If you ran it down every day then I would expect the battery to have diminished capacity. I generally keep my phones on the charger all the time. My original Duraforce Pro (which I got back in 2017) still has 85% battery health, and my Pro 2 (which I got in 2019) still has 95% battery health.

My first one took a similar hit to your forklift (40 horse tractor with loader and grader box on it). Barely scratched the case and the screen was pristine. Finally got rid of that one because the camera lens got all scratched up. Second one (Pro 2) has been fine for 3 years. Lots of drops from ladders on concrete. Been using my girlfriends inactivated old iPhone for like two years now and I always wanted a Kyocera duraforce. Idk about a lot of specs I just like having a touch phone so I hope it’s worth it when the price drops. Or I’ll just get the duraforce pro 2. Camera in that is wack though but my iPhone has a scratch on the camera and can’t pull focus anymore so they’re shit pictures anyways. I see a lot of people say their phones have software issues but you get a good warranty plan. They’re pretty good but idk about $900 I’m too broke even a 150$ duraforce pro 2 is a bit extreme. I’d rather buy an elite Xbox controller for that if I’m being honest.

This is the biggest pos phone I have ever owned. It locks up and takes hours to restart. Lucky I have a Samsung watch for a backup.

Do not buy this phone! My wife has had 3 of them and all of them had the same problems. Flash light only works when camera is activated or doesn't work at all, messages for some reason don't come through until the phone is restarted, sometimes cannot get the phone to turn on, first one she had would NOT CHARGE no matter what charger she used, video worked when it wanted to (as in she would take a video and it wouldn't save), finger print reader doesn't work. She is a business owner so she was excited to see something like this that would be durable, but when you have 20+ employees and almost 300 clients that she can't reliably receive messages from, that's a problem! Can't return the thing as it was past its warranty period, can only have it replaced. Luckily she has a back up S20 that she can use, but she's still stuck paying for this trash. Buyer BEWARE.

@@dancarlton7973 as someone who never owned or planned to own an iPhone. I'd pick Apple over Kyocera in a heartbeat
@dancarlton79733 жыл бұрын
@@FlaccidFella I used to own iPhones. I switched to an Android because of Google Play's selection of apps I preferred to Apple Store's. I'm talking about a specific type of mostly free apps. Just my opinion.. Apple also doesn't make rugged phones. The new Kyocera shown in this video would be better suited due to a kind of a job I have, also for outdoor activities.
@FlaccidFella3 жыл бұрын
@@dancarlton7973 I think you should just get an Otterbox case cause the last time I had a Kyocera was 2014 and they were horrible back then and I honestly thought they went out of business till now. They are good for their ruggedness. Although if you ask me that is the ONLY thing they are good for. You could also maybe get one of those old durable Samsung phones. They are a couple years old but I think it'd still be a better choice

Maybe not a flagship. Still a pretty good phone. In the rugged line including other brands it is a flagship.
