When it comes to doom metal, I‘ve loved basically everything Wino has done. I when I was getting more into Black Sabbath and starting to listen to Alice In Chains, I was looking for more music kinda like that. I came across Spirit Caravan and soon after The Obsessed. Jug Fulla Sun is a masterpiece and possibly Wino’s magnum opus in my opinion, and it’s become one of my favorite rock/metal albums ever

In a way, Doom Metal predates Heavy Metal, since the quintessential Doom track is Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, from their very first album. Deep huh? Doom really predates all other Metal genres.

In terms of release, Deep Purple released Black Night before Sabbath, in 1969. If this song were released in 1979 by Diamond Head, we'd call it an NWOBHM classic (which is what I thought it was first time I heard it). So I would say DP beat Sabbath officially, and with a more straight traditional HM song. BUT, we all know Sabbath wrote BS and were performing it at the same time.

Great to finally get an explanation to why purple is my favourite colour! Thanks for the list. Good and fun! Only objection I have (because as metal fans the sport is to never fully agree) is the rule about not caring about later Sabbath, but I am somewhat biased being a big Tony Martin era fan :). Many great doomy songs there (Nightwing, Anno Mundi, The Sabbath Stones, Virtual Death, Evil Eye, Kiss of Death, etc.).

The best doom comes from a few specific places like England, Sweden, Chicago (Trouble), Texas (Solitude Aeturnus), Indianapolis (Apostle of Solitude, Wretch, The Gates of Slumber), and the east coast (Penance, Argus, Orodruin). There's also some really great South American doom metal like Procession!

I'm a Doom Metal fan, but I only like traditional Doom with clean vocals, I don't like the extreme Doom Metal subgenres (Drone, Funeral Doom and so on). I'd say the most iconic Doom albums are: 1) Black Sabbath 'Vol. 4' 2) Trouble 'Psalm 9' 3) St. Vitus s/t debut album 4) Pentagram 'Relentless' 5) Candlemass 'Epicus Doomicus...' 6) Warning 'The Strenght to Dream' And the holy grail of Doom Metal is the ultra rare, ultra expensive alternative mix of Pentagrams 'Relentless' album, which was issued before 'Relentless'.

Also: If you are a Christian band, throw Bibles at your audience. Wear fluorescent clothing, shoes and accessories. Participate in Ménage à trois and orgies. Depict BDSM on at least one of your album covers. Love animals. Live on a prayer. If your hair has not caught fire at least one time, you are NOT glam metal! Dress like royalty but write lyrics that appeal to the working class. Be decadent. Wear gloves. Smell the glove. There's no one home in your House of Pain, and you go out for nights on the town to the Theater of Pain. Manis and Pedis are mandatory, not optional. Your Gypsy Road can't take you home. You don't know what you got, til it's gone. Write acoustic love songs. 100. Make it 'til you fake it.

Trouble was the only Christian Doom from the third or NWOPR bands. There are hints of it in Candlemass, St Vitus and Solitude Aeturnus songs namely Samarithan, and Where Angels Dare to Tread . The Jehovah Witnessing is stifled beyond 3 songs the other being second wave Doom band Black Sabbath - After Forever .
