This is very helpful. Tomorrow is my grandson's first game. I thought I knew nothing about the sport, but it seems similar to hockey in many ways. I followed pro and amateur hockey in my youth. I'll watch your video a couple more times just to be sure, but I think I've got it. Have a fun day.

Great video, but, as intended, very basic information for the more advanced lacrosse fans. I would like to see some clarifications on some of the controversial calls that are always argued, like a legal check versus slash, what defines "hit from behind", cross checking, etc. Seems referees have a wide variance of what is legal and what is not. Thank you for the video. I can send to my Mother-in-law who is learning the game.

My 14yo daughter is interested in playing Lacrosse next year in high school. I was thinking about buying a couple sticks and a ball to get her used to throwing and catching. But not knowing if she would be a defender (long stick) vs an attacker (shorter stick), which would you recommend I buy? I would think it would make a big difference if she got used to throwing/catching with a short stick but then became a defender and had to throw/catch with a longer stick. Thoughts?

i would buy two used ones so she can learn and get a feel, most likely she will "click" with a certain style over time and at that point you buy her a nice brand new one

I think a very important rule that I had no idea existed was being able to hit someone from behind to stop possession, basically if its a fast break your sliding up field to a guy infront of cage and he does not have the ball in his stick but the ball is in air traveling clearly to him if your on his backside it does not matter. Obviously the limitations are it depends on how hard you hit him but its relatively fair game considering refs “SHOULD”understand you don’t have any other options.

@@Rehan-sl5fj it all really depends on your physique and skill, its really easy to get into, when I first started I was like a 5,2 90 pound kid who hadn't touched a sport at all, I struggled a bit, but with hitting the ball on the wall, the game gets significantlyy easier, the hardest part of getting into the game after that is probably contact which if you get some strength up, will be relatively a breeze, you got this

@@Rehan-sl5fj contact is the same for everyone, but like the contact pain level would differ, D poles are more on attack men and they hurt the most, but shortsticks are mostly on middies so might hurt the least, but sometimes these positions switch up so sometimes its D pole on Midde action, Middie is also a pretty exhuaistve position so contact pain levels would feel a bit exaggerated ig

Good question! You are not allowed to push with your hands spread apart - they have to be together. And you can't push from behind - you have to push from in front!
