He said 14 subs i believe, 7+14 = 21 and to get the idea of the game and that you are not damned to play one position only it's well enough explained. @austin other thing is for example that beaters can interact with the quaffle by using the bludgers but going too deep will confuse people even more^^

Quidditch isn't recommended to younger kids becuse of the full contact and beater game, in most schools in America dogeball is already not allowed and Quidditch has a dogeball element which is beating, Also it is a full contact sport which would really discourage many schools from allowing it. I've seen more injured players on Quidditch than soccer or basketball.

@@VaqueroCoyote It's a sport. It's based on a fantasy novel, sure, but why exactly should a sport based on literature be less serious than any other? I could say boxing is stupid since it's two people beating each other up. I could say paintball is stupid since it's people shooting balls made of paint at each other. I could say rugby and American football are stupid since it's a bunch of people chasing an egg-shaped ball and pushing each other on the ground. I could say table tennis is stupid since it's a toy version of tennis played above a table. However, the truth is that all of those sports are serious and valid and they contribute to our health, well-being and as a means of entertainment.

It's a little dinky with the brooms between the legs, but generally speaking it's probably the best way you can adapt it to real life. Doesn't look like a bad sport while doing so either. Having ball-specific roles is a fun twist that makes it different from most ball sports. I wouldn't be against giving it a go!

Great video, as always. To those hating on the sticks: try running around with a stick between your legs. Not too easy, right? That's the point. It's like not being able to use your hands in soccer or throwing a forward pass in rugby. It makes it more challenging. And besides, you need a special set of cohones to keep a straight face while running around with a stick between your legs.

"dude people aren't complaining because it's hard to run with the broom. people are complaining because it is an idiotic fanboy way of "staying true to the original" and it makes you look idiotic. there are other ways an handicap can be created whilst not steering away from the original but muggle quidditch just took the most dumb, literal, and virgin way. that's it. you might as well wear harry potter glasses as a handicap. jeez."

Never seen Harry Potter never will and dont impress easily just saying. I wonder if anyone has taking a stick to the gut before? Coming from a person that played ice hockey for a decade this looks like a mix up of field hockey, rugby, lacrosse, water polo and dodgeball that had a crack baby which is a compliment. We do a race for Greek week at my college where we have to run with one of those horse head on a pole between our legs down the football field jumping over obstacles. I played pro quidditch for 15 years. My career started at ilvermorny where i was on thunderbird. I then was scouted by the London Lake Monsters. I was a beater. They already had a bruiser of a player named Scandar the Great. I went by Jack the Ripper so being on London was great. Together we earned the name Death Beaters and rules the quidditch league for a decade. Teams were terrified to play us. I came from Philadelphia with the memories of the Broad Street Bullies so I renewed that mentality and me and Scandar destroyed everyone. We were playing the Paris Prancers and their captain left the pitch midway through the match because I hit him multiple times with the bludger in the head. He said it was a disgrace. I say learn how to fly your broom better. A member of the German national team I think he was actually the seeker tried to say the Death Beaters weren’t anything special. Then he giggled. He ain’t giggling anymore. This was a special quidditch pitch played over a raging rhine river. When he fell off his broom into the water the life guards could not find him. To this day he’s still missing.

We actually played this at my elementary school back in 2001. We would have school tournaments 😆. Those were the days. We would use paper towel roll broom sticks, dodge balls, and 2 bouncy balls for the snitch that my teacher would throw up into the air for the seekers to catch at any random moment he would choose during the game. I have few fonder memories of my childhood than that of playing quidditch with my school at the end of the year😊

You would be surprised how little the brooms actually matter in terms of tackling injuries you get an odd spearing from the brooms now and then but they are few and far between. By spearing I mean someone gets hit with the end of the broom which is capped off (We us pvc pipes now).

A seeker who caught the snitch starts a timer, when the other seeker catchs the snitch restarts the timer. The team who their seeker has the snitch for a whole minute win.

If a point gets scored does the game get reset or is it ‘play on’?
@sackeshi
@sackeshi 3 жыл бұрын
I love Quidditch and I would love to see it becomes a professional sport. I think it needs a bigger field 120M with 10M goal sections taller hoops (5ft and 10ft) and the game needs to have a set time, two 30 minute halfs. As for the broomstick I would have them use real broomsticks that were designed with team logos just have a soft tip on them so that people would not get hurt if ran into. If they are going to allow forward throws it needs to require that players have one hand on the broomstick at all times. If 2 handed catches are allowed then like Rugby only laterals and backward passes should be allowed. Also off sides rule needs to be added to eliminate cherry picking. You can't catch the ball behind the last defender on the other teams half. Kicking the ball should be allowed as well if its on the ground Imo. For scoring they need to lower the number of points to 1 maybe 2 if they get it in the top hoop. 3 if they kick it into a short hoop and 5 points for the tall hoop. 4 points if you tackle the ball carrier in their own zone with them coming off the stick (one hand coming off). Allow the goal keeper to not use the stick. The snitch if caught should be 15 points having the snitch end the game is stupid, it breaks the game. I also hate when sports inflate scores for no reason which is why having 10 points when its literally the same as one point is dumb. Bludgers should be heavy 5 pound medicine balls that can be thrown at a player carrying the ball in an attempt to get them off their stick, but forbid them from throwing at the head. I would totally make this version "Quadball" because the current version while fun looks amateurish.

As i quidditch player myself , the broom serves a massive purpose otherwise it would of been removed long ago , its purposes are so it makes it more difficult to catch while running and as the sport is very fast pace this is quite important so majority of things are done with 1 hand , so its main purpose is to handicap the players , if you took it away it would basically be rugby with a few more rules , it differs the sport from rugby in that sense , also a lot of rules to do with when you must dis-broom and go back to hoops when out or losing hold of your broom has effected many outcomes in many matches i have played, an example being when somebody dis-broom at the recent Quidditch World Cup while catching the snitch to end the game , the catch was no good because they were not successful in catching and holding there broom between there legs
@NinhLyUK
@NinhLyUK 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I must admit, like everyone I thought it was silly at first. But once I actually started to do the research into the sport, it's actually an ingenious handicap. This make Quidditch one of the more unique sports in the world and I've certainly changed my mind about it. Thanks for the clarification!

As someone who plays quadball (the sport has rebranded), the brooms are unfortunately essential to the sport. There have been some test matches and the game is just worse without them. With the ability to forward pass and small number of players, you can't cover one person with multiple as easily so the slight restriction in mobility makes it a lot easier to tackle attackers.
@DanteYewToob

How are people not getting fucking MAIMED in a tackle game with wooden spears in their crotches? How are players not being impaled, jabbed, stabbed, and crunched the fuck up on all of the brooms when they collide?! There don't appear to be tennis balls or anything on the tips, and I'm sure they break on occasion making a nice sharp point for stabbing... This seems super dangerous and I like it.

So a lot of peoople have issue with the brooms. We use brooms as a handicap in quidditch. In Basketball you have to dribble. In football you have to use your feet. In Quidditch the broom is the handicap. That's how we think about it.

yep, yep, if they removed the broom sticks, this would be legit. Color coordination and standardization would be important as well, since the hoops are so narrow that close colors would be a pain in the arse for a ref to tell if it's a score or not.

One variety for horse riders - where the Polo or western riders can be the best in - or great for the children to play with their ponys! - to change the broom for a horse! On a well trained horse you don't need both your hands to "drive" him - and a horse is a little bit something closer to real feeling of flying. Of course, you will need some more helpers, because when the ball falls on the ground, it's not easy to get it back when you sit on a horse ... But could be really funny!

Now here we are, not only playing a form of dodge ball, but also sporting a broom between our legs as well. Talk about "DOUBLE JEOPARDY" with this sport! First, we have the opportunity for broken noses and fingers, black eyes and bruised faces. then, as if that's not dangerous enough, now we add the possibility of actually poking an eye or a few teeth out! Parents: We forbid you to play such a dangerous game! Kids: I'm a full grown teenager! You can't tell me what to do! Tantor: Yeah, It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

The rule was done away with to allow competition to be a little more fair and accurate. There were a lot of cases where a snitch would be caught off pitch with no way of letting the head referee know that it was caught until getting back to the field, which caused huge problems at places like URI and Syracuse

This would be a good sport if you get rid of the brooms. Not only does it hinder your movement, it's also a huge safety hazard that serves no purpose. Also, having the snitch be a person introduces bias. Sure he's supposed to be "neutral", but how do you guarantee that without getting complicated? He could choose which team will win. The snitch should just be a drone that's pre-programmed for random movements.
@vadarman9906

It would be better if they ditched the brooms and found some other kind of handicap. If the purpose of the broom, aside from paying homage to the books, is to ensure they only use one hand on the ball, then they could probably just make a rule like "players can only catch the ball with one hand and hold the ball with the hand they caught it in."

@@NinhLyUK Within the fictional world of Harry Potter, it's a variant of Quidditch that is uniquely popular in the United States. It's meant to be an allegory for how just as "muggle" America bucks the rest of the world's favorite form of football in favor of its own, the wizarding world's America does the same thing. The basic gist is two teams of players fly around trying to put the ball, called the Quod, into the opposing team's goal. The gimmick is that the ball is enchanted to explode at a random time. If you're holding the ball when it explodes, then you're eliminated from the game. The team that scores the most goals wins.
