The best response I’ve heard so far. Most guys are complaining about rules, well it’s not clear, or we need to change….. I’m great w anglers doing that privately w BASS or whatever their organization but putting the organization on blast and blaming them is just victimizing themselves. We all have rules we have to follow regardless of how we “feel” about them. Thanks for doing and saying the right thing even though it’s not pc at this moment. Real men have character and do what’s right whether someone is looking or not. It’s like golf, it’s up to the player to be honest and take the stroke bs someone else’s job to do it! Very well put together and professional. Getting DQ’d is always a sore subject, because not only does it upset people, it costs people money. So feelings will always come out for both sides. At the end of the day you should always ask if it’s ok and safety is a big concern. Imagine if he didn’t make it and the boat hit and got stuck and someone got hurt?
@hunterbigwood4556 Жыл бұрын
G! First I wanna say, I look up to you, love what you do , love following you, and will always pull for you in every derby you fish. BUT I have to play devils advocate here. You touched on this and I’ll take it a step further, when you got a DQ at the classic, you honestly felt in your heart you didn’t do anything wrong. Hell I didn’t think you did anything against the rules. But an interpretation deemed you did. Keith is in the same boat. Now that may be comparing apples to oranges, but after reading the rules myself it was kind of grey for me as well as to watching what Keith did and determining if he broke the rules. Should he have called hank? Absolutely. But I don’t think for a minute that if Keith thought he was breaking rules, and would then get a DQ for that day that he would have done what he did. The same with you at the classic. I’m not saying he is right, and I’m not saying you are wrong by any means. All I’m saying is in the heat of the moment with everything at stake on the line that it would be easy to make a possible wrong decision. And it’s hard for me to stand on one side or the other without actually being there. Love what you do G, you and lulu keep up the awesome work y’all do.

14. PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS: Tournament waters shall be established by the Tournament Director for each tournament. Each competitor must obtain this information from the B.A.S.S. Tournament Department. Any water within these boundaries that are legally and obviously posted “Off-Limits” or “No Fishing,” as well as the live-bass-release area established by the Tournament Director, will be off-limits to tournament competitors and will be announced at the Tournament Briefing. Only that water open to all public fishing will be considered tournament waters. Waters deemed off-limits by authorities or tournament officials should be treated like a wall. No boats or casting behind that boundary while fishing. All angling must be done from the boat. In states where landowners have the legal authority to claim private property, these areas must be posted or they will be considered tournament waters unless instructed otherwise by tournament officials at any time during the event. If forced to leave, a competitor must report the incident to tournament officials as soon as possible. Any water to which a competitor is barred access becomes off-limits to all competitors. Prior to 8 a.m. local time the day before the tournament is scheduled to begin, any questionable areas must be brought to the attention of tournament officials to be considered tournament waters. Questionable areas will be off limits until a determination can be made with authorities and may be announced in the briefing or via text for all to know unless determined otherwise by tournament officials. Tournament officials reserve the right to restrict or enhance tournament waters based on conversations with local authorities. Competitors are not allowed to cut, remove, displace, or engage in any type structure removal from private property (dry land) during off limits, official practice or competition. Moving structure to include sawing of logs or other obstructions in the water is only allowed if laws permit. No competitor may place any object that may impede or cause danger to boaters. 15. COMPETITORS MUST REMAIN IN BOAT: During the competition days, competitors must not depart the boat to land fish or to make the boat more accessible to fishing waters. You are not allowed to use a winch, pulley, come along, cable, rope, or similar device/tools to gain access to tournament waters. Competitors may not shift a majority of their weight outside the boat and onto a dock or other object outside the boat for the purpose of landing a bass or accessing a fishing spot. A bass that cannot be landed without the angler leaving the boat or shifting his weight outside the boat must be released immediately. While keeping the majority of weight in the boat anglers are allowed for boat protection to push or shove off objects while landing a fish to be counted as legal. Competitors are allowed to leave the boat to retrieve a lure. All fishing by that competitor must cease until the competitor is back in the boat. Only then may another cast be made. Boats must remain in tournament waters during tournament days. Competitors must leave from and return to official checkpoints by boat. Anglers must remain in the boat at all times except in case of dire emergency or with permission from the Tournament Director. Exceptions are spelled out in rules 5, 15, and 18. In such an emergency or with permission from the Tournament Director, competitors may be removed from their boat to either a boat operated by other competitors or a rescue boat designated by the tournament director. Partners must remain together at all times, in sight of their catch, under the conditions cited above, in order for their catch of that day to be scored in the tournament with the following exception. In breakdown situations and with a tournament official’s permission, Co-anglers may transfer their boat’s (Pro’s and Co-angler’s) fish to another competitor’s boat and ride to check in, and they may leave their Pro with the disabled boat. In such cases, the co-angler must stay with their catches at all times and assisting boat’s partners should verify the catch. Any angler whose boat is disabled and rides with another competitor or rescue boat to weigh in is not allowed to fish. In the event of a needed restroom break or refueling situation at a marina gas pump, partners are allowed to leave the boat; however, in that event, all fishing must cease until partners are back together in the boat. If a competitor violates any of the above conditions (without contacting a tournament official by phone or other means or to report an emergency or breakdown), competitors must cease fishing at this point, and their catch must be verified by a tournament official in order to be counted in the tournament. If after the emergency situation is resolved by tournament officials and enough time is left for the competitor to resume fishing, a restart will be allowed, and the competitor will continue and their catch will be counted. This applies only to dire emergency situations as determined by the Tournament Director or his designee. Towing boats on trailers during tournament hours is prohibited, except by the direction of tournament officials.

I think you are definitely in a great position to make this video. In my opinion, as one of those that has not signed the dotted lines on the rules, I wish BASS would have come out and mentioned the “crossing dry land” portion you mentioned. I think the rule they say Keith violated, rule 15, was not a very good reason and Keith I think did a good job of refuting them on that. He never left his boat, and the water he went to was tournament waters. Regardless as you so said so well, when you live in that gray zone like Keith does, and I’m a fan of his, this is bound to happen. He could have asked.
@EddieButler-fv9tr Жыл бұрын
Well plane and simple if you are in doubt call the tournament director and just ask it will keep you in the game
@wwp2213 Жыл бұрын
GMAN, I appreciate your stance, but I'd like to clarify 2 things you have stated that's not true. 1. You stated that in the rule book it states you can not run over dry ground. I personally fished the Open on Toldeo, and I signed the "book " (technically, it was docu signed email). I just read it again, and it DOES NOT have that statement in the rules. 2. You stated that Keith did not use the roller system when, in actuality, he crossed right where the rollers are located, the rules do say he can't get out of the boat to drag his boat over the rollers so he just used horse power from the motor. Here's the only issue I have with BASS on this ruling, their ruling was Keith left tournament waters while going over the rollers. Had they DQ'd him for safety (like your Classic DQ), then I could agree, but leaving tournament waters is just BS. Good luck at Sabine. God Bless and tight lines!
@Natureboy1607 Жыл бұрын
Rule is a rule . Maybe Kieth and others can use this in a positive way . Thanks G ! Tight lines !
@vernonkempsendlessfishing3449 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely correct Gerald, I do not think it could have been explained in a better manner than that. I remember your DQ and the conversation that ensued. I’ve known Kieth for years and he likes the gray area , unfortunately this time he went a little bit further than he should have. I also remember the duck refuge digging and the conversation about it. It all boils down to how we play the game professionally and the Elites set the standard for what is acceptable in the opens. If they cannot follow the rules on a lower level then they won’t follow they top tier. Good luck with the Sabine and the northern swing brother!👊👊🙏

@timmaloney5495 exactly. There is no clear cut definition of what rule Poche broke. It doesn't look good that BASS hasn't put out a statement yet. Same for G to get up and grandstand with a rule book and not show it. Eight months ago G was bashing BASS rules for Trey getting dq'd at Chesapeake. Now he's going against Poche. Seems like the opposite direction a fellow competitor should go. Heck, he wasn't even there

The boat was literally on dry land. That is out of tournament waters. And yes it specifically says the boat must remain in tournament waters.

@@robertmorgan4015 Ike put his boat on the bank and wasn't disqualified? You really think nobody ever did that before? So you're saying it would be good if it was raining? Just how dry does it need to be? If that's a rule why don't they just spell it out? I call BS!
