The best response I’ve heard so far. Most guys are complaining about rules, well it’s not clear, or we need to change….. I’m great w anglers doing that privately w BASS or whatever their organization but putting the organization on blast and blaming them is just victimizing themselves. We all have rules we have to follow regardless of how we “feel” about them. Thanks for doing and saying the right thing even though it’s not pc at this moment. Real men have character and do what’s right whether someone is looking or not. It’s like golf, it’s up to the player to be honest and take the stroke bs someone else’s job to do it! G! First I wanna say, I look up to you, love what you do , love following you, and will always pull for you in every derby you fish. BUT I have to play devils advocate here. You touched on this and I’ll take it a step further, when you got a DQ at the classic, you honestly felt in your heart you didn’t do anything wrong. Hell I didn’t think you did anything against the rules. But an interpretation deemed you did. Keith is in the same boat. Now that may be comparing apples to oranges, but after reading the rules myself it was kind of grey for me as well as to watching what Keith did and determining if he broke the rules. Should he have called hank? Absolutely. But I don’t think for a minute that if Keith thought he was breaking rules, and would then get a DQ for that day that he would have done what he did. The same with you at the classic. I’m not saying he is right, and I’m not saying you are wrong by any means. All I’m saying is in the heat of the moment with everything at stake on the line that it would be easy to make a possible wrong decision. And it’s hard for me to stand on one side or the other without actually being there. Love what you do G, you and lulu keep up the awesome work y’all do.

Moving structure to include sawing of logs or other obstructions in the water is only allowed if laws permit. No competitor may place any object that may impede or cause danger to boaters"

GMAN, I appreciate your stance, but I'd like to clarify 2 things you have stated that's not true. 1. You stated that in the rule book it states you can not run over dry ground. I personally fished the Open on Toldeo, and I signed the "book " (technically, it was docu signed email). I just read it again, and it DOES NOT have that statement in the rules. 2. You stated that Keith did not use the roller system when, in actuality, he crossed right where the rollers are located, the rules do say he can't get out of the boat to drag his boat over the rollers so he just used horse power from the motor. Here's the only issue I have with BASS on this ruling, their ruling was Keith left tournament waters while going over the rollers. Had they DQ'd him for safety (like your Classic DQ), then I could agree, but leaving tournament waters is just BS. Good luck at Sabine. God Bless and tight lines!

In the MLF BFL tourneys, the rule for Alabama rigs are 5 spinners, 5 lures, 3 hooks max or state rule applies if more restrictive. Alabama rig hook requirements vary from 1 to unlimited depending on the state, but the MLF rule takes priority. Therefore not leaving tournament water supersedes what the state may allow others to do. Anyone who has fished tournaments enough knows that. He broke the rules. Side note - I am not claiming that I know what was in the mind of Keith Poche but here is a thought. Knowing that an angler suppose to approach the director with any questions about the rules, he may not have done so on purpose. He went to the governing authority over Toledo Bend knowing they would tell him its legal to jump that roller. No one would see him do it. Then if he won the tournament he would pass the lie detector test when ask if he did anything illegal. I'm probably reaching. Some say I am not. BTW - KZbinr Cerebral Tackle makes a compelling case why Keith Poche broke the rules. Watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6W6nIaYfKipbdU&ab_channel=CerebralTackle

14. PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS: Tournament waters shall be established by the Tournament Director for each tournament. Each competitor must obtain this information from the B.A.S.S. Tournament Department. Any water within these boundaries that are legally and obviously posted “Off-Limits” or “No Fishing,” as well as the live-bass-release area established by the Tournament Director, will be off-limits to tournament competitors and will be announced at the Tournament Briefing. Only that water open to all public fishing will be considered tournament waters. Waters deemed off-limits by authorities or tournament officials should be treated like a wall. No boats or casting behind that boundary while fishing. All angling must be done from the boat. In states where landowners have the legal authority to claim private property, these areas must be posted or they will be considered tournament waters unless instructed otherwise by tournament officials at any time during the event. If forced to leave, a competitor must report the incident to tournament officials as soon as possible. Any water to which a competitor is barred access becomes off-limits to all competitors. Prior to 8 a.m. local time the day before the tournament is scheduled to begin, any questionable areas must be brought to the attention of tournament officials to be considered tournament waters. Questionable areas will be off limits until a determination can be made with authorities and may be announced in the briefing or via text for all to know unless determined otherwise by tournament officials. Tournament officials reserve the right to restrict or enhance tournament waters based on conversations with local authorities. Competitors are not allowed to cut, remove, displace, or engage in any type structure removal from private property (dry land) during off limits, official practice or competition. Moving structure to include sawing of logs or other obstructions in the water is only allowed if laws permit. No competitor may place any object that may impede or cause danger to boaters. 15. COMPETITORS MUST REMAIN IN BOAT: During the competition days, competitors must not depart the boat to land fish or to make the boat more accessible to fishing waters. You are not allowed to use a winch, pulley, come along, cable, rope, or similar device/tools to gain access to tournament waters. Competitors may not shift a majority of their weight outside the boat and onto a dock or other object outside the boat for the purpose of landing a bass or accessing a fishing spot. A bass that cannot be landed without the angler leaving the boat or shifting his weight outside the boat must be released immediately. While keeping the majority of weight in the boat anglers are allowed for boat protection to push or shove off objects while landing a fish to be counted as legal. Competitors are allowed to leave the boat to retrieve a lure. All fishing by that competitor must cease until the competitor is back in the boat. Only then may another cast be made. Boats must remain in tournament waters during tournament days. Competitors must leave from and return to official checkpoints by boat. Anglers must remain in the boat at all times except in case of dire emergency or with permission from the Tournament Director. Exceptions are spelled out in rules 5, 15, and 18. In such an emergency or with permission from the Tournament Director, competitors may be removed from their boat to either a boat operated by other competitors or a rescue boat designated by the tournament director. Partners must remain together at all times, in sight of their catch, under the conditions cited above, in order for their catch of that day to be scored in the tournament with the following exception. In breakdown situations and with a tournament official’s permission, Co-anglers may transfer their boat’s (Pro’s and Co-angler’s) fish to another competitor’s boat and ride to check in, and they may leave their Pro with the disabled boat. In such cases, the co-angler must stay with their catches at all times and assisting boat’s partners should verify the catch. Any angler whose boat is disabled and rides with another competitor or rescue boat to weigh in is not allowed to fish. In the event of a needed restroom break or refueling situation at a marina gas pump, partners are allowed to leave the boat; however, in that event, all fishing must cease until partners are back together in the boat. If a competitor violates any of the above conditions (without contacting a tournament official by phone or other means or to report an emergency or breakdown), competitors must cease fishing at this point, and their catch must be verified by a tournament official in order to be counted in the tournament. If after the emergency situation is resolved by tournament officials and enough time is left for the competitor to resume fishing, a restart will be allowed, and the competitor will continue and their catch will be counted. This applies only to dire emergency situations as determined by the Tournament Director or his designee. Towing boats on trailers during tournament hours is prohibited, except by the direction of tournament officials.

Very well put together and professional. Getting DQ’d is always a sore subject, because not only does it upset people, it costs people money. So feelings will always come out for both sides. At the end of the day you should always ask if it’s ok and safety is a big concern. Imagine if he didn’t make it and the boat hit and got stuck and someone got hurt?

Then BASS needs to make their rules more clear and less grey. Poche didn't break any rules according to the Opens rule book.
@BenC-77

Whether or not he broke the rule is dependent upon the interpretation of "Boat must remain IN tournament waters at all times...etc"...the truth is that Keith Poche did something that caused his tournament fate to be placed in the hands of a collective group of people that interpreted the rules as they saw fit. This is very interesting!

BS G. His boat is as much a piece of equipment as Forward Facing Sonar or any rod or reel. I agree with everything you said but him jumping that spot. I remember you doing the same thing on a beaver dam but here you are.

After going online and reading the rules. I will have to agree with G. I’m old, and I remember G getting DQ’d. I have seen others DQ’d. Hell, I DUI’d sitting in the passenger seat, and ask the officer why since I was in the passenger seat sleeping. He said this truck didn’t drive down into this ditch by itself, and I don’t see any tracks in the mud, your drunk, and your getting a DUI. It stood up in court. So I feel poche’s pain. But I got a DUI and he got DQ’d. Fair or not, it’s the judges ruling that counts. 😁👍👍
