Just so you guys know, this episode covers 4 chapters, 131-134, not 2 chapters. It's just that they decided to split up this animated special into two 'chapters' -- 131&132 was the first 'chapter,' and 133&134 were the second 'chapter.' So all that's left to cover is chapters 135-139, which is 5 chapters, and we're guessing it'll take a little longer than an hour to cover all that.

134 not completely... They did 3.5 chapters total... The next TV special should be 1hr15mins in length or slightly more in runtime, that's all that is required.

I feel like a lot of people missed it, so I just wanted to point something out: the elderly couple at the jail in Liberio were grandparents of Zeke and Eren. After Zeke betrayed Marley, his grandparents obviously lost their titles of honorary Marleyans and were thrown into prison.

@The Normies, if you are aching for anime that gives almost same dread as AOT, try 86. Its have the same composers of AOT final season, Sawano and Yamamoto. -they have similar common enemy that threaten the whole world. - they have conflicting moral dilemma -they have badasses - sadly, their version of "TATAKAE" is not from protagonist but the antagonist.

The thing I don't see mentioned often and I think it is at the absolute core of the show is that it isn't even about Eldians, everyone so concern about the Titan problem and how to end that, but without Eldians, humans will find other ways to be in the same position of hate and destruction. This is why characters like Armin gets it, it is about empathy, coexisting and constant dialogue, there is no single solution you execute to magically get long lasting peace, it is a constant effort.
@DNephilim

It is easy to put blame on a common oppressor. Remember WW2? who was the bad guy for everbody? Nazis. But that doesn't change the fact that "good guys" sent two nukes to a country and wiped away their citizens. As long as humanity exists there will always be conflict always people with no empathy and lust for power, this cannot change. So the solution is to wipe out or control a race that has the power to oppress others very easily, like becoming a Titan. So the only solution is to wipe out one side so everyone would be in equal grounds even if there is conflict in the future...

To answer Marketa's question, fighting and action scenes are adapted way faster than dialogue heavy chapters due to their fast pace. For example, you could turn AT MOST 1 and a half chapters of heavy dialogue Into a 20 minute ep, while for the action heavy ones, you could even stuff up to 3 chapters per episode sometimes.

Fun fact: the Marleyan continent is actually…Africa! The AoT world map is our world map but flipped upside down, and Paradis is Madagascar. You can see this in this episode in the flashback when Yelena is showing Eren where the Marleyan airship base is. It’s Africa upside down! Another side note, this is interesting because their world history is also “flipped” compared to ours. The Marleyans are essentially the old Romans, and the Eldians are the old Germanic tribes (this is evidenced by their last names…Marleyans have Italian names while the Eldians have German names…food, culture, and in the Ymir origin flashback, their military uniforms.) In our world history, the Romans conquered and enslaved the Germanic tribes, however in this “flipped” world of AoT, the Germanic tribes stumbled upon the power of the Titans, and subsequently won those wars/battles against the “Romans”. There’s a whole lot more trivia to this show, especially pertaining to Norse mythology, but this comment is long enough already.

I don't think we will see most of the 134 rumbling We got new scenes to make up for it and as of now we already got past that point, it will be weird if they stop everything to go back and show more of the rumbling (especially when they already showed alot like burning bodies, decapitated heads and limbs, crying children, babies and families and suicide and people fighting over a car I feel like all of that makes up for everything 134 has to offer except like the baby scene)

1:06:00 It's worth acknowledging Annie's point isn't just giving up to depression. It's a pretty fundamental question: I'm tired of killing people and fighting. Why should I go kill and fight for a world that will likely kill me after that? Keep in mind Marley treats Eldians _better_ than everywhere else in the world. Given she believes her father is already dead, you can't really blame her for not wanting to get involved in stopping Eren's omnicide when she honestly thinks that it will just lead to a genocide of the Eldians.

48:00 I think that Eren does not necessarily experience all timelines at once until he merges with Zeke. Before that, he was only experiencing glimpses into the future. That's why he says "*most likely*, I save this kid" because he knows Ramzi appears in a future memory. He's already been shown that the future cannot be changed, because every single choice he makes brings him to another point in the memory, regardless. Whatever Eren "chooses" to do is what was always going to happen. Isayama is not just conveying a story about determinism, he's created a tacit rejection of a libertarian notion of "free will". More specifically, the idea that a person is the "author" of their own thoughts and, all things being equal, could have chosen option A just as easily as they could have chosen option B. In the case of Attack on Titan, every "choice" that Eren will make leads to a predetermined conclusion, because every choice that Eren makes is not of truly of his own volition. It's not truly of anyone's volition. If Eren had chosen to not save Ramzi in that instance, that's what was supposed to happen anyways, because in every timeline, Eren makes that same choice no matter how many times the scenario plays out. I also love how thorough Isayama's theme of "everybody's a slave to something" permeates throughout the series. He created a character so free that they're a slave to freedom itself. All of this is happening because Eren literally cannot accept the world trying to take his freedom away, even if he's fully aware that the better option might very well be for Eldia to perish instead. Incredible.

*Key things to note for the next part: (No spoilers below)* 1. That initial scene with Mikasa saying goodbye was in the first chapter of the manga but for some reason, it was removed in the anime version. 2. Note that Eren doesn't have a definite "overarching" reason to initiate rumbling. He just saw bits and pieces of the the future where he would initiate it. However, no matter how many options he tried out, things happened exactly the way they did in the memories at the end. Just like all the other founding titans across time (the royal family, ymir, etc.), he too was a slave to time. In a way, you could think that time used Eren and all the other founding titans in the form of hallucigenia to change its own course; free will doesn't exist in AOT universe. 3. Eren doesn't know the specific details behind his memories. For example, Eren saw that one golden flower with blood spilled over it in one of his memories. Well, that could be that flower with his mom's blood when she died, flower present during Hannes' death or flower Ymir Fritz looked at when she was severely wounded. So, he has to live his present out to deduce which time he is at, since he has most of the memories from the start to the end, in a puzzling fashion. He might not be able to recall his memories in the moment accurately either. This is starting to sound more and more like dementia now. 4. Every eldian is connected to another if they are close enough in some way (through blood relations, contact or rarely mere thoughts). This is why people can even unlock other people's memories (especially in the case of titan shifters) but we saw Falco seeing visions of soaring across the sky in S4P1 and Reiner getting random visions of Falco and Gabi in Paradis. Historia saw Ymir's past and her being eaten by porco galliard just by touching the letter. Porco unlocked Marcel's memories by touching Reiner. 5. _"It's as if all the Subjects of Ymir are connected by something we can't see. One inheritor said they saw paths. The blood and bones that form a Titan, and at times, even memories and thoughts are sent through those paths. All the paths cross at a single coordinate. That's the Founding Titan. Every single Subject of Ymir is connected to that coordinate."_ Mikasa, Armin, Jean and Connie cannot just run towards Eren and get to that single coordinate because they are not founding titans. Paths transcend physical space and time. 6. In "Two Brothers" episode, when Eren enters the paths, he sees memories of various different things; some which are not even related to him. In one such memory (if you pause it at the right moment), he saw Falco using modified Jaw Titan flying to Fort Salta. 7. The ending credits is clearly about Mikasa. We saw black screen at first. Then, we saw Mikasa walking slowly over a patch of grass with rocks and pebbles here and there. Then, with Mikasa walking in the background, we saw a tree on a hill. We can infer that she is walking "towards the tree on that hill". This happens to be the title of the final manga chapter. I doubt this is a coincidence. 8. In an episode called "Outside the Walls of Orvud District" (from Season 3), you could see Eren's skeletal titan form for the first time; I think that it was supposed to be a vague representation of a future memory. 9. Eren's titan is the best environment for vertical maneuvering equipment; it is even better than forest of tall trees because not only can they up the tall pillar-shaped bones but they can go under the bones too, which allows so much versatility. This is why the team dodged Beast Titan's shots easily this time around and defeated it quickly. I feel like Zeke's Beast Titan is not a S tier titan but a low A or a high B tier titan because you need to set up circumstances for it to win. Otherwise, it will struggle landing its shots. Also, it's not particularly tanky either.

This essentially brings us current through the end of chapter 134 of the manga, out of 139 chapters, and most of what's left is action sequences, so I'm feeling confident they can get it wrapped up with the second half. It's gonna be close though, there's so much still to get through.

Chris, Suraj Navi, marketa, Micky! Around 10:30! The attack titan = shingeki no kyojin =進撃の巨人 「進撃」means advancing/charging in the context of a battle rather than attacking specifically, so the nuance is lost in the translation. There isn't much that the translators could've done unfortunately. The "Charging Titan" doesn't sound nearly as good as the "Attack Titan", and it doesn't have the broader meaning that the Japanese word does unfortunately 「の」 means of, 「巨人」 means titan But attack is usually 「攻撃」 not 「進撃」 in Japan. 「攻撃」, 「進撃」 and 「巨人」 are Chinese characters and have meanings on their own. 「進」 means advance forward, go up, improve, etc. 「攻」 means attack, learn 「撃」 means beating, attacking 「攻撃」 means attack. In Japan the attack titan means kogeki no kyojin, means 「攻撃の巨人」 but the creator, Isayama, chose to name it shingeki no kyojin! It is difficult to translate shingeki no kyojin to English. The name of the Titan and the name of the show is: The titan who attacks to advance forward. That Is the more correct meaning.

Not trying to justify Eren’s actions, but we need to consider the fact that from the time he was born till Reiner came bursting through the wall, the walled region of Paradis was what Eren knew to be the world. Reiner willingly, and knowing the fate of those in the walls, broke through while letting literal hell wander into Shiganshina. Reiner was willing to destroy the world Eren knew, to save his own. One might say Eren is doing the same. Cos Eren’s constant inquiry whenever anyone brings up a plan is generally “Will this really stop people from seeking to attack them??”…….almost like he knows it wouldn’t really work. And for someone who can see the future to end up on this path as a solution………….must mean he saw no other way to save his own, than to end everyone else

There actually was quite a bit of additional content. The "See You Later" scene wasn't adapted by WIT in Season 1. A lot of the Rumbling scenes were expanded. Seeing Grisha's parents was anime original scene. We never saw them again after Liberio raid in the manga. Even after Zeke was labeled a Marleyan traitor. Great attention to detail by the director and the staff.

The predetermined fate in AoT can be explained the same way as it was explained in Netflix's Dark by using a famous German philosopher's quote: "Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills." - Arthur Schopenhauer This is true for Eren as well, he technically is free to do as he wants but what ultimatley strips him of his freedom to diverge from the future he has seen is that he can't control his desires/will. Thus everything that will happen, will happen for sure even though he might not think so at first or even believe he would act different once the moment arrives. Humans aren't truly free, we are bound by many things and first and foremost our own personality, relationships, experiences, biases and flaws. That's why Eren was so in despair once he saw Ramzi. He tried to not save him to prove to himself that he could maybe change the future but it was just his nature to save an innocent kid getting beat down in front of his eyes so he couldn't act against his desires. Thus, he realized that he will also 100% kill Ramzi in the future even though in that moment of time he wanted to save him and wouldn't want him to die.

Exactly. A soft Rumbling as what the fifty year plan was suppose to do. Cause financial issues but blackmail the world. It wasn’t gonna stop and technology was advancing. Given this set in the early 1900s based on technology, decades after you have jets, tanks, increase numbers of battleships, submarines, or a nuclear bomb. All that will leave the Rumbling obsolete.

I think people are forgetting that this is a war The World declared war on Paradis in the first part of s4. Eren and Paradis spent a couple years trying to make peace prior to that. But in the end the World decided to take Eldians out. Eren only has a couple years left to live at this time and Paradis still never found away to make peace with the world. Like when Hange said they failed to give him another choice. Which was hinted in ep10 of s4 when Eren was in prison and he asked Hange if she had any other ides on what to do. And that led to Eren doing what he's always done rather letting the world take his family's freedom he took their freedom first. A lot of people say do a partial rumbling but it wouldn't work because if you remember they attacked Marley in the first part of s4 that was suppose to hold them off for months but they came back in 2 weeks. The outside world was developing fast so they had way more knowledge then Eldians so they would've responded quickly. I think he's doing it to become the catalyst of hate so that they would come together and stop him. Which is why I feel like he wants Eldians to stop him so that the rest of the world would respect them giving he's family true Freedom.

The Rumbling is the original definition of “awesome”. Great in its power, terrible in its existence, the kind of thing that had people falling to their knees and struck dumb, that had angels saying “do not be afraid.” Equal parts horror and awe. A primordial expression of power that by all rights should not exist. Poor Ramzi, he didn’t deserve this.

I don’t think Hange’s death went quite like that in the manga. From what I read, she took out one or two and then died pretty much right after, making me very confused as she didn’t do anything significant but still somehow managed to buy time for everyone. Not only did the anime clarify how her sacrifice actually meant something, they also made it ten times cooler than it was originally.

for me, i TOTALLY understand both Eren and Annie's decisions (AND Reiner's prior suicide attempts). You see, the show presents us various characters with various motives and personalities, and with all the events that happened, various depression facets. Just like cancer, there isn't just one type of depression, there's many. and maybe there are even more than the DCM-5 can register, and will register. and that's because human behavior is probably one if not THE most complex and deep thing to understand. when we see Eren's response towards his depression, trauma, and cruelty/deception towards humans, he totally gives up his WHOLE humanity. all he is able to feel after he gave up on ignorance is hate, disgust, and regret. and on his final act, all he wants is to have a glimpse of the one thing he always dreamed about: freedom. rejecting all humanity's cruelty, he wipes out everything that's making the world the way it is: humans. i think there's much more to think about each one's decision upon facing all the trauma and disorders. Annie has seen all sorts of things and has been subjected to EVERY possible exploration in any kind of way. I can only comprehend just a fraction of her fatigue. one thing every person has to understand is that, as well as human behavior is EXTREMELY hard to understand, one should never have concrete preconceptions about someone's suffering. everything is debatable, and every personality in every single person is constantly changing. annie went to the fight to save the world just to realize later that if she never have been born, she wouldn't be part of the human's cruel nature. and by that, i think i can agree that yes, Zeke's euthanizing plan made sense, but don't think that Eren is wrong. ignorance indeed is a bliss, and as we can se throughout our history, many of the philosophers and geniuses had some sort of mental decease. i don't think the world (human world) was made for someone to be self aware, and we can go even deeper in the thought saying, just like many "conspiracy" theories, that the REAL state that a human has to live to understand the whole complexity of human existence, is pain. only by giving up on human expectations such as religion or a "will" to live is when we can finally understand the world's existence as a whole. and i think Eren, Annie, and Reiner pretty much understood all that. Although unlike Eren, Annie and Reiner found comfort within other people's sufferings. but i think Eren, with all his experience and trauma, thinks he has the responsibility to make things better for the few people that he still cares, his family.

This is 4 or 3.5 chapters of manga content in a 1 hour shows (Chapter 1 here is chapter 131 "The Rumbling" and chapter 132 "The Wings of Freedom" which is Hange reunited with Erwin and all fallen scout scene, Chapter 2 is Chapter 133 "Sinner" which Eren talking to Armin them in the path, and Mikasa said want to shoulder his sin together scene and partial of chapter 134 "In the Depths of Despair") here . With the remaining 5 chapter plus those extra panels that shows what happen afterward, that's gonna be at least 2 hours shows. P.S: Regarding the discussion time experience stuff, my thought is once the attack titan exist and send back future memory to the predecessor, they tend to altered the timeline multiple times already, and now this version is the most stable version and least awful choice Eren has found across all alternatives. That's why since he found this ending, he knew he can't change all the significant moments, otherwise for eg. in one alternate ending he choose to flee with Mikasa, but once he is dead due to Ymir curse, Mikasa will be left alone and no more friends or comrade alive on Paradis. He tried and knew he ain't satisfied with this alternate ending, That's why he end up here right now, knowing this is the only way he could terminate the titan curse on Eldian once and for all without wiping out Eldian race (by baiting the Hallucigenia appear on this world latching on his nape) while protecting Paradis from the hatred and revenge of rest of humanity by giving them the Helos and Tybur(Armin and Reiner and all the comrades) of Eren's choice But of course Eren can only foresee the future where Attack Titan existed, once the titan power is terminated, he can't see the future beyond that. That's why in those extra panels which shows the fall of Paradis hundreds years or thousand of years later, make those haters thought Eren genocide action is in futile but that's not how peace works. War is brief but never gonna stop once for all and live happily ever after that kind of fairy tale propaganda, Peace could be long but always temporary. This is the idea of this anti-war genre story trying to convey as per my understanding.

With regards to the discussion of fate vs will, and most stories that tackle this topic reach the same conclusion: we willingly "follow" our destinies. Will and fate are not opposites, fate is just basically the result of our will, and if we started over again, with no knowledge of our previous lives and scenarios, we would make the exact same decisions, over and over again, because that's who we are. When asking which came first (his will or his fate?) I don't think it's an unsolvable paradox, the answer is actually his will. Time, in this case, is indeed circular, because when Eren visited the "past" and talked to his father, that needed to already have happened, which needed for the future to have happened, and so on. So there is indeed a loop, and it really has no starting point, but the key to the question is not the starting point of the loop, but actually what makes it MOVE in the direction it does. And that is his will. We shouldn't feel that because of the time "paradox" it wasn't his choice. It's the exact opposite. It always has been his choice and it always will be. And that was clearly shown in this episode when he decided to help Ramzi. His rational side made him realize it was pointless, but he couldn't fight his own being, his instinct, who he essentially is. His will is to help Ramzi in that situation, even if it is pointless, so he does. As he says, "so the future doesn't change", but he didn't act because he saw in the future memories, he did it... because he wanted to. Just like with the Rumbling. So philosophically speaking, the starting point of the "loop" doesn't matter, there isn't one. But his will is what controls the loop, making it follow the same direction over, and over again, towards the beginning, and the end. So Eren isn't a slave to destiny. He is free. We all are.
