You marry someone to 'gain' that which adds to life. So that in difficult times, someone is there who you can rely on, but then that favor should be reciprocated. Also a partner to laugh with and to hear the truth when no one else will be honest. Doing for someone else instead of putting self first is transformative and you grow. If someone is a gold digger with nothing to offer a man, no personal substance, a trashy embarrassment and nothing but demands etc as many women tend to be then I see why you said you gain nothing when you marry a man, because you haven't found a decent one but you have to be decent too

Tho I don't like how they dress the children I feel thats one nice thing about the culture its not about what you wear its about your behavior and how you present yourself and I think thats why the girls feel comfortable wearing what they like bc the clothes and make-up unless they're looking for a spouse its more about what they like and prefer and that's something non gypsies should understand what a woman wears shouldn't be a problem bc its no ones business but hers . I heard one gypsy mother say its not inappropriate but they don't intend for it to be if its cute her daughter can wear it as long as she wearing safety clothes under . Never hold how woman or a girl dresses against her . That's one value I like about their culture that at least women respect themselves bc most of the men sure don't.

You can tell how immature some of the girls are and they are getting married?!?! It blows my mind. I'd like to know the divorce rate for all these young couples. I know it's frowned upon in the culture but I'd say it's pretty high. I felt bad for the mom :(
@d.sherlock5359 Жыл бұрын
The divorce rate is closer to zero than you’ll see in pretty much any developed country. Perhaps a statistic to be sad about really. All those children trapped forever as second class citizens. Forever under the control of a man they picked in a rush so they didn’t look like an “old maid” at a time when, biologically speaking, their brain chemistry is most likely to have them making poor decisions. Of course they’re all groomed to it from birth and the vast majority of traveller girls are removed from school at 11yrs old and then spend their days cleaning and looking after their younger siblings/cousins/nieces & nephews.
@apebass2215 Жыл бұрын

I'm not trying to be mean but I find it really confusing how they talk about the importance of having a "clean name" and being "pure" but they dress the young girls and women in outlandishly inappropriate clothing and excessive makeup and even the young children dance like strippers. It just doesn't radiate "clean" or "pure". I also worry about the children's lack of access to education. When a child grows up with no education it becomes difficult for them as adults to find a good job or work their way up in the world. It keeps them in poverty with little to no choices.. I just feel for them..

The women don't work. It's seen as shameful and a failure on the man's part if his wife needs to work as it proves he can't take care of and provide for his family. The woman is to stay home and keep the home clean, take care of the children, make sure there's a meal on the table when the man comes home from work etc. Very traditional family values that seem to have long since been abandoned by non-travelers.
