I think its because, in their culture, men are basically allowed to be children no matter their age. They are catered to and only are expected to work outside the home to bring in the money. Women, from a very young age, are expected to do everything except get an education and hold a job. It's no wonder that the women are more mature. Crazily enough, most of these women seem to think that these rules are for THEIR benefit, which blows my mind.

I’m sure it’s because they raise the boys so much more different than they raise the girls. The boys are spoiled, don’t know how to regulate and express their emotions properly, and are misogynistic. I mean, is it better for her to get pregnant at 16 and dumped? Like so many girls in America, 21 years old with 3 kids from 3 different dudes who aren't in the picture, sleeping with a new guy every few months and all the kids know is a string of mom's loser boyfriends? It seems that is celebrated in the USA, so why not have some subset of people in the UK celebrating having children in wedlock with a dedicated father? Even if he is a loser, at least he's there, unlike the 80% of single moms out there who are just hump and dumps for whatever thug walks within 50 feet.

I think that might be a cultural difference, rather than anything to worry about. I'm a Traveller and I'm married to a non-Traveller, which has really opened my eyes to how the communities view thing differently. He will have told her repeatedly that she's perfect for him, but it's considered being "full of yourself" to say that as a Traveller. You say you hope that's the case because you want to be humble and don't want to jinx it, but if you weren't sure, you wouldn't be getting married. In English culture, saying that he's told you you're perfect for him is a sign of confidence, so it's viewed very differently. The difference is probably both cultural and religious. Catholicism demands humility. It's not a gender subjugation thing, though, because if they'd asked Brendan the same question he would have said words to the same effect (that she was perfect for him, and he hoped he could live up to her expectations). I know in English culture that it's easy to think her words mean that she thinks she's not good enough, but I promise that's not the case 💕

It’s a strict Christian/Jewish/Muslim thing. I’ve met more oppressed Muslim wives than traveller. Imagine having to tell your coworker that her husband shouldn’t be ramming it in dry and he’s the reason she’s in pain and receiving medical treatment for friction burns and then telling me all her friends husbands do the same. Same here. Married at 23, new baby nine months later and one every year or two after. 16 years later, separated with four kids and I’m realizing that my individual life halted immediately at 23. I spent my 20s raising my family but forgot about raising myself. It’s something that others don’t prepare you for.

I'm 23 and my school friend of the same age is getting married. I can't believe that because I feel like a child. I've had so much depression so I couldn't even start my career by now but building a career and a life and deciding what I want in the future is my top priority right now. I'm not even gonna date let alone marry until I feel like myself and have a good career.

Me 17, him 18, married at 22, separated at 26, divorced at 27…………….Grew up, began to understand and find myself. ………Second time, me 29, him 29, married at 35. Now, 42, we’ve been together 12.5 years, and I’ve found my partner in life and love. Why is number two working out? It’s simply because at 35 I knew myself, knew what I wanted and didn’t want and found someone who truly loved and respected me for me. Marriage is hard, it had ups and downs you cannot imagine! Both of you need to be mature enough to work through it (and have solid role models to show you how to live and love healthily); not to mention truly love each other. People grow and change, it’s human nature; there is no way I knew what I was doing at 22! I feel so sorry for this poor girl, she doesn’t stand a chance and we all know by watching him for 30 minutes that he won’t do a thing right by her; we all know he showed his true colors, and they are not beautiful. I hope she makes it out alive, not totally traumatised and without 6 small children.

Women between 15 and 30 to not mentally mature much, if at all, they. just. grow. older. Yes, women do have a _base_ maturity that kicks in around 14 (has to be that way since they can be made pregnant) but beyond that they are pretty much stagnant and will not mentally mature much until they hit around 33ish. Men however, do NOT have the base maturity women have, but men DO mentally mature between 15 and 30, having reached full mental maturity around 30 (which is why, if we go really far back, a man was NOT allowed to vote until he had hit the age of 30). A 15 year old female has the same maturity of a 25 year old male. Recoiling at the age difference Micheala is making a mistake, because it *presumes* that men and women are equal and just the same (which also presumes they mature at the same age and pace) alas they are not, not even close. Que the outbursts and the name calling.

Not everyone doesnt know what love is at that age but I agree, a lot of people don't. Hormones tend to overwhelm most 'sane' thoughts. My parents married at 17 (mum) and 18 (dad). They're almost 60 now and they're sticking together good. Some kids know how to think with their brains rather than emotions, some can't. Which is why 18+ is the age for marriage (without parent consent). It's getting easier now for kids to know what love is and know who they want to be with and marry because everything is becoming impossible to afford and so it's harder to marry. Also, this generation (those who haven't been brainwashed in their religious views such as this couple) tends to be better with thinking things through because we aren't looking into marriage to have kids and live together and just live. We know that we are able to live together and wait years and years to marry without being ostracised and hated for what we want to do. There's so much mroe freedom now than what there was because religion doesn't overwhelm everything and we're having to learn that we are almost never going to own a house and we're almost never going to be able to afford a family because it's just too expensive.

I’m sure you didn’t have the same pressures or expectations surrounding your relationship like this poor girl did.

Same. Met at 19, married at 29. So many ups and downs during that time we were not ready to settle yet.

I am always surprised when they talk about discrimination against travelers because everytime they show people they seem cool with them and are cheering them along the road

I dont know about the UK but here in Ireland there is still a huge amount of discrimination... people will come cheer them on because who doesn't like a big wedding, and then the local hotels refuse to host their reception or charge ridiculous "deposits"

It's the business owners. Travelers have been known, are known, for having huge fights when the men get drunk, and just in their everyday living, they trash the hotel rooms, the restaurants, bars and pubs, and whatever wedding venue they manage to get. No business wants to have to spend thousands of dollars in repairs, but many have gotten stuck with that in their past, so they refuse to serve travelers. That's according to several others of these particular videos on YT.

In some of the other episodes you see so many rental cars not show up and venues cancel.

She's so young and shy (naturally), especially during the practice scene at the church. Hope she's okay now. I wonder if she's still as enchanted with him now as she once was. It'd be a miracle, I say.

I think that priest needs to have a rethink about the advisability of marrying at 16. There may be no divorce in the traveller community, but there's a high incidence of abuse and beating. As long ago as 2009 an independent study group in Wrexham found that as many as 81% of traveller women suffer abuse, and suffer for longer than other cultures.

I married my first boyfriend 😭 but we waited until we both graduated high school and also waited to have kids until I graduated from college and were financially stable. Together 12 years now.
