At the time mark ( 49:20 ) he says he awoke and couldn’t find his comrades and went looking for them without taking his rifle with him. I’m going to say, if there is one unbelievable passage in this “memoir” of a veteran German combat soldier, it is this one. I’m am a Vietnam veteran so I can speak from experience, the most basic thing any soldier is trained, instilled, and drilled in until you know it like your own first name, is you never go anywhere while in a combat zone without your weapon in your possession, period. I find it very hard to believe this German soldier fighting in the Soviet Union during World War Two would leave his rifle and go wandering away looking for someone, especially with the enemy in such close proximity. That simply doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Something doesn’t smell right…. I’m assuming the narration is accomplished by robot voice. But it is one of the better computer voice programs I’ve heard. Only a relatively few pronunciation errors throughout the narrative.

He lies a lot repeating wartime nazi propaganda, as well as postwar clean whermacht and defeated by winter and.russian horde myths. So it's not a shock to see him lie to make a story exciting

So pleased to see this comment as I have had great difficulty believing so much of what this man has written. All the ‘I know nothing, I’m just a simple god fearing soldier’. Any ‘simple soldier’ in Russia saw the atrocities the Germans inflicted on the Russian people, the old, the women and children.

Bro this was the eastern front , those who fought in wars like Vietnam have absolutely zero idea of what these German soldiers experienced…. Many weeks at a time cut off from supply lines, wounded, freezing starving , Insanity , no command structure , resigned to death months prior like wild animals , and u talk about training ? Never leaving Trench with out rifle ?. These men we’re immersed in an endless cycle horror , there circumstances had these men resigned to their fate & traumatized repeatedly for months possibly years , and u talk about ur silly training? re-listen to it and lose ur ridiculous opinions of ur experience and opinions aside . Ur comment shows ur lack of understanding and intelligence.
