For anyone wondering, the author of this story is Holly Ice. She writes horror, fantasy stories. The Russian sleep experiment was made by her. People never give her credit and it is mind blowing the fact that nobody to this day still don’t know.

For the past 4 years I've worked in a similar situation, only getting 2-4 hours of sleep. I was practically narcoleptic for awhile. I still don't sleep that much but I'm no longer falling asleep while walking. I keep telling myself I'll take better care of myself when I get a better job, whenever that will be.

As an ex drug addict i can say the longest i went without sleeping was 5 days. But over the course of about 5 months i would only sleep every second day or third day. Basically i was sleeping maybe twice over the course of a week for months and working 12 hour shifts 4 days a week. But on the time i was up 5 days straight after about 5 months of barley sleeping i started hallucinating and getting paranoid. Seeing things that weren't there. Anyways i locked myself in my room for 3 months and cut off all contact with friends and now im 5 years sober :)

I had a friend of mine who works in the medical field to read this a couple years ago. He said it has the potential to be 100% real. If the gas they used was vaporized meth, which is also plausible because the Russians used to use meth at that same time period to keep their soldiers alert for long stretches of time, that kind of reaction would be likely.
@jennifergraceh
@jennifergraceh 3 жыл бұрын
@@ofox716 meth can keep you up indefinitely too. I was a meth addict and I would have to force myself to stop using it on day 4 so i could crash and pass out for 24hrs. I would get so paranoid and weird after 3 days, I made it 4 once but never let that happen again...it was so scary and my paranoia was off the charts. Meth makes you paranoid to begin with and then add sleep deprivation to the mix.

My great grandfather was a political prisoner in Russia after the Russian Revolution. The prisoners were tortured with sleep deprivation. Basically all the prisoners had to stand up all the time, so they couldn't sleep. They learnt to sleep standing up 5 minutes at a time hiding behind another prisoner so that the guards won't see they were sleeping. My great grandfather eventually got released from the prison and deported from Russia. He then came back to our homeland, got married had 6 kids and my grandfather told me the story. So I think this story actually might have some real life inspiration behind it, as sleep deprivation is something that has been used to torture people.

It's a weird dilemma tbh. Often to learn something new, you must destroy something, especially in biology. We only got to learn about human body because we had corpses at our disposal. Had we been so morally uptight, modern medicine would be practically non-existent. To this day, med schools use bodies for demonstration. I know it's a little fucked up, but it is what it is. Heath Ledger pays tribute to the film when he talks about his scars. It is a very good film and novel the picture is the main character Gwynplaine. They would easily stay up for 1-2 weeks without sleep, and the premises being they were looking for a super method... In WWII meth was widely acknowledged as being distributed to axis and allied forces... Stands to reason they would try to develop stronger variants.... Compared to meth heads, these folks seemed charming... Not to mention that the image in the person pictured in the thumbnail looks near identical to, ney even healthier than my kids GMA. And I'd honestly probably rather hang out with them than her... But in all seriousness truth or fiction, plausible or not... The real thing to take from this is not to use meth.... I have had sleep problems my whole life. But I’ll talk about the recent issue: I’m also in the military. Recently I had to pull 24 hour duty back to back. I’d been doing this with intermittent breaks for about 6 months. I had had a stretch of not pulling this duty, and I was so anxious and full of dread when I knew I had to go back. On day two of this duty, day TWO, I called my partner having a mental breakdown, crying, so suicidal that I was terrified of myself. I was so tired that I just wanted to die so I could sleep. It was a horrible day. It takes me weeks to recover and get back to a normal schedule after each time.

The dying when they fall asleep is due to hypotension or extremely low blood pressure. Being amped up for that long puts massive stress on the heart so it’s like a rebound effect once the stimulus has left the body. When you sleep your heart rate has to slow down. In this case it probably slowed all the way down and was unable to pump enough blood. The heart is a muscle and just like when you work out a muscle it has to recover. I’m sure this is true or some version of this. This is similar to what happens in stimulant psychosis. These men all had to have a psychotic break in the situation severe sleep deprivation will do this.

This is the first time I've heard of shadow people, I work security on the midnight shift, and when employees go out the north side of the building to take a break, we see the moving shadows as we call them, some time's they're more active then others, we always ask the people coming back in on how the shadows are doing? We have no clue what it could be, we pretty much have gotten used to them, and none of us are in to occult or unique activities, everyone is pretty much family orientated. It is a weird feeling though, they have no shape, just a moving shadow.

Everyone around you starts to get skinny and start eating themselves by ripping out their flesh with their hands the sink gets flooded and the room is very terrific now. If you are still sane in that situation then you are very unlucky and would scream a lot. Afraid of what the others would do would they attack you would they gain back their sanity what would they do that would definitely chip away at your sanity even if its only for 15 days.

There are two movies I can think of where lack of sleep actually had an effect on the characters that was in a way, life threatening One of them was a Batman movie or episode where a villain would attack Batman in his sleep or possess him or something so Batman did a bunch of stuff to stay awake (drink a lot of coffee, blast music at full volume, punch out a window in the bat mobile) and the second is the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake where the characters would suffer from something called “Microsleep” where for a brief few seconds they’d fall asleep and would be vulnerable long enough for Freddy Krueger to actually scare them and probably could’ve even killed them if he was fast enough

And if you're going to try to correct someone on super specific language (instead of just allowing a normal conversation/statement to happen) you yourself could get terms correct. Why would you suggest sleep paralysis? what did he say that would make you think that? Ive had both. There have been points in my life where i could not sleep for 5 or 6 days. And for about five years or so, for some reason, i had really bad sleep paralysis. And i can tell you right now, you don't confuse the two, they are nothing alike.

@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701

@@JustAUser847 No. I did not say that i could not sleep for 5 days and it was because of sleep paralysis, read what i said. I said at different points in my life ive had both sleep paralysis and insomnia, a lack of an ability to sleep for days and the two are impossible to confuse or equate. These are two very different things. Sleep paralysis is where you're partially asleep. Some functions in your brain are still going. This is where people see shadow people standing over them or feel things outside of their window. And because you're only half asleep, people often wake themselves up out of these states. To very religious people, this is often considered being possessed by a demon. If you're trying to converse with or correct other people you need to ensure you do 2 things. 1. Make sure you read what they say and respond properly... which you didnt do. 2. Make sure you know the definitions of the words you're trying to correct... which you don't know and a very basic google search for both of these terms, will show you that you're wrong on both accounts.

i read this story online a couple of years ago. still haunts me... there's a detail that i missed in your telling of the story. at one point the remaining survivor ( i think) after all the struggeling in and out of the chamber came eye to eye with a nurse. and though the flesh was ripped from his face, she could still tell by the twinkel in his eyes that he was smiling when seeing her. that made my blood run cold...

I remember going 60 hours or so without sleep during college. After a couple days without sleep, I started hallucinating. Like I’d see movement in my peripheral vision, but when I’d turn and look, nothing was there. I can’t even imagine the level of paranoia you’d have going a whole week or longer without sleep. I’d honestly guess that going much longer than I did might cause permanent cognitive problems.

If you had stayed awake much longer you could have started seeing shadow people. Look it up, it is a common hallucination. It can be triggerd by certain drugs, by sleep paralysis, sleep depravation and drugs that cause sleep depravation such as amphetamines.

I once read a Reddit post asking people what they experienced during sleep-deprivation. Most of them said Shadow People. Just like you mentioned. It would start off in the periphery. Then after another day or two of no sleep, the Shadow People would become fully visible to them. They started hallucinated more intensely. MY THEORY: Sleep is what keeps our psyche separated from "the other side". When we don't sleep, the curtain starts to thin out... which is why we start catching glimpses only. The curtain thins more and we start seeing the Shadow People more clearly. And if you go enough days without sleep, you literally die. That's a real thing. Fatal familial insomnia is a real thing. It's an incurable insomnia. Even sleep medication or anesthesia doesn't work on them. They sleep fewer and fewer hours over months or years, until they eventually can't sleep AT ALL. They die shortly after that stage. (Don't worry, it super rare though. You need to have a certain gene for it, too).

I didn't see shadow people, but I did see giant aliens in a parking lot jumping rope once, after 50+ hours awake.

When I was 21 (I’m now 57) I went into rehab for heroin addiction. The rehab also put people through detox, which they tend not to do these days. The place was pretty barbaric and detox was achieved using only paracetamol for the pain and a drug called Clonidine which just lowered blood pressure. Anyway, the detox was pretty severe and I didn’t sleep for a full 15 days and nights. If you weren’t able to sleep you were allowed to go downstairs for 10 minutes every hour to sit with the duty nurse, which I did religiously to break the monotony and frustration. People have subsequently told me it’s impossible to stay awake for 15 nights, but I know I did and the nurses confirmed that I chatted with them every hour. It wasn’t at all pleasant, but I didn’t hallucinate or eat my own flesh. It might’ve made it more interesting if I had!
