Very nice video. I remember this, and then all of a sudden there was a big push for schools to teach more math and science. They should do that today!

Talk about fractured history, Reinhard Gehlen had little if anything to do with our delay in launching our first satellite. Gen. John Medaris' Army rocket team, led by Wernher von Braun, was nearly ready to launch but President Dwight Eisenhower ordered them not to do so. He had two considerations in mind. He wanted our satellite to be launched by a civilian vehicle. Also, he wanted an "Open Skies" policy to become part of international law. He had the foresight to recognize that a Russia launch would serve as a legal precident.

I dont Agree with this sputnik first in space thing the German V2 rocket in WW2 could go to space it didnt orbit but it did go past the atmosphere the sputnik and yuri were the first to ORBIT earth (and the USA used German Rockets to go the ze Moon)
