It has nothing to do with the Russian education. I am Russian myself, I turned 18 just a month ago, and my knowledge of English has absolutely nothing to do with our education system. English is not taught properly in Russian schools, from >20 classmates I have only a couple of them know English well, despite my school being considered to be one of the best in the city. Had I not had a brother who’s fluent in it and had I not been a nerd - there’s no way I would’ve known it at all. It’s one of the weakest spots of our education. Math is still good, informatics are doing great, physics, too, but languages?.. Not really.

22:37 That's a miscommunication that stems from a little different use of the word "propaganda" in English and Russian. In modern Russian it means "publically announce some sentence (with the intention to convince the audience)" usually with negative connotations but it is a neutral word by itself. So you can say "healthy lifestyle propaganda" in Russian and it will sound natural to everyone without a linguistic background. Thank you for that video, nice to see the little hoi boi once again.

I wouldn't say it's a miscommunication but a misunderstanding due to the different nuance the word have in English and Russian. The basic meaning is still the same in both but the nuance and context where it is used is slightly different due to how the word is used during WW2. Originally, propaganda have the same meaning as broadcast as both come have its origin in farming terminology (still used today in "propagation"). So the basic meaning is "to spread as wide as possible" refering to seeds but also of other things you wished to "germinate" like information, news etc. At least in English, it come to mean "an official governmental account/version of information" and after WW2 and through the Cold War, it gain the nuance of "an enemy government's version of information". Since USSR is isolated from the Western media at that time, it didn't get tainted by that nuance as the government have monopoly on information, i.e there's no such thing as alternative version.

I met Prigoghin once on my travel back to Russia in Ghilinghik (resort town near Sochi). Back then, he wasn't very well known although already Ruble billionaire. I was just visiting my family back in Russia and my uncles decided to go on vacation to Ghilinghik. He was extremely chill guy, who was intrigued that I was Russian-American US Army veteran (keep in mind I had no idea who the hell that guy is. He just randomly invited me to his table, and he did keep quite "interesting characters" around him. For example, being naive, I asked who the girls with him and they were said "they are his daughters". - It was his escort service he wanted and had at any time). I never realized who he is until I saw him several years later on TV next to Putin. The guy was extremely low key and did hang out with anyone who was friendly to him. Back then it was more or less friendly situation.

I've met kids like that in Indiana, they were already driving by 16 and very responsible. Sadly most kids these days in the states don't know as much about their country, don't know how to do anything except how to play Fortnite and Call of Duty and aren't that invested in what's going on around them That's nice to see though. I remember when I was 17, I was just starting to understand the wider world around me. I graduated in 2002 so 9:11 was very fresh in my mind especially since I live in New York.

"Supporting his nation" is one thing. Humans aren't robots, we shouldn't support everything our nations do just because we are from there, that's just idiotic and primitive nationalism that this guy has been completely taken over by. I see the same types in my country, the same arguments. Seeing people here call him a bright young man, glorifying him for supporting Wagner among all things is pretty sad. He would perhaps have the potential to do something bright and good for humanity if he wasn't indoctrinated like he is, that is what is more fucked to me. Instead he is writing on shells that will kill other people and proudly posting them to his twitter. I'll never wish horrible things on him personally, but it doesn't change the fact that he is a brainwashed young mind that glorifies its countries invasion of its neighbours and people here only make that stronger. The truth is if this was a Ukrainian guy his age, doing the same type of stuff "supporting his nation" as you say here, the same people glorifying Grisha would treat them terribly, its all stupid tribalism.

Well Done. This kid has more wisdom than the entirety of the Western Political Leaders. To add, the sincerity in his humility and advise to the West, as to not make the mistake Russia/Soviet Union made in its past, shows the depth of level of higher education. (Education is not what the schools teach you but your surroundings and elders.) To accept and deal with the internal problems of a society's past is the only way to move forward. Progressive thinking can only be achieved if one knows where he/she came from. Unfortunately, the West's sun has set and will be extremely difficult as to avoid a "crash landing/future."

This was fun and I’m impressed with your guest. What I have noticed lately is that around the world and especially in Eastern Europe - young people - under 18 are more interested in history and more opened to take stand for values we all thought are lost. I live in Canada and was quite happy to meet some fine young people who see trough this conflict and events in the world around with perspectives that are not influenced by msm, Hollywood or mainstream narratives. They are inquisitive, bold and willing to step up on the world scene and fill some big rolls like this young men. I saw interviews with few that attended that recent big youth event in Russia and world is definitely changing. I am less worried for 18yr old and younger then those in 20-30-s right now. I thought we lost few generations, but there is a hope for this world with some new generations that will arrive to positions of influence soon…

27:32 that's exactly my understanding too as a non-Russian when speaking to Russians. Which is a big contrast to westerners. Russians seem to not be bothered with their past, probably because it's in the past i guess. They see it as part of their identity, in that these things made them into who they are now. I even had a Russian colleague who was surprised that Germans would hate nazism, because they in his words "should be proud of their history". The fact that these polar opposites can live side by side in peace (red russians and white russians), just goes to show with how much Russians are at peace with themselves and their country/history. Something that is completely missing in the West.
@PainFireFist
@PainFireFist 2 ай бұрын
And yet there was a big deliberate de-Stalinisation under Khrushchev... not really what I would call "proud of their history".
@EasternRomanEmpireForever
@EasternRomanEmpireForever Ай бұрын
I would not talk about peace and mutual understanding between Russian whites and reds today. Putin's government is promoting the idea of reconciliation between the two sides, but the disputes have not subsided so far. SMO helped the reconciliation of whites and reds in the war, because it is something like an instinct - when an external threat appears, you need to put aside contradictions and unite. However, now the confrontation has moved into the sphere of culture and discussion of the future of Russia - the whites want to remove monuments to Lenin, and the reds hate monuments to the White Guards. In general, the image of Russia of the future is being discussed - it will be inspired rather by the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union. From the actual - in Russia there is a loud public discussion about the philosopher-publicist Ivan Ilyin, who foresaw the fall of the USSR and predicted its collapse into parts, from which a new Russia will eventually rise, which will unite all the fragments, after which it will gradually move from the republic to the monarchy. The Reds hate it and want to "cancel" it, while the whites defend it.

Hello, a Polish person here. I would like to comment on Bandera and UPA brought up around 35:40 After the war started I dated a Ukrainian woman for a brief period and at some point we had a conversation about our favorite music. She told me a title of a song and when I looked it up. it was about Bandera. I asked her if she realises who this guy was to us and what he did. She had no clue. I had a similar experience with few other people, who told me UPA and Bandera got popular after the war outbrake, but they seem to be glorified and from what I have gathered, most of them don't even know the history behind Bandera. So what Young Mr. Putin said here is true, also, a lot of Poles remember Wolyn very well. My family lost it's property and life there.
