Love the counterpoint of a sprightly "Yankee Doodle" with the strains of both "The Volga Boatmen" and "O Field, my Field" (Polyushko-Pole). One of my favorite films. Wonderful cast!

i'm not Russian, i'm American, but even I get annoyed at all the dehumanization that went on during the Cold War (and sort of was repeated to a lesser extent against Arabs more recently). I like movies like this. They're eye opening, theyre hilarious, theyre memorable, and they actually have a moral message too Russians are people too!

+David C Rigght on! Wonderful movie, well written, well acted, far better than anything put out today. This movie is over 50 years old and still holds well. So before anyone says something stupid, watch the movie, it was nominated for an academy award in 1965.

This has been my favorite film since I was a little boy; it's much better when you're old enough to understand it, but I always found it fascinating. And it gave me an appreciation of Russian choral singing!

@dchris1990 Then I was also a child here, at Brazil . I think the anticommunist atmosphere imposed by the military dictatorship was such strong , which maybe never existed in US since the Macarthy era. I remember my family ,as well as other persons ,being surprised from the title, and scared of going to the cinemas, choosing other movies.

Excellent premise and would have done better as a straight drama or comedy ONLY IF the script had been more inspired. As it is, this is a plodding piece of dull nonsense that would be a total snore if Reiner hadn't been yelling at points throughout that break the slumber. Love Arkin but he really has nothing to work with here. '66 definitely a bad year for movies since this dung was nominated for BP.
