Classic cinema. Sadly We’ll never see good comedy like this anymore.

No. Tragically, Hollywood has become extremely right wing toward Russia, because it's no longer communist. Hollywood now wants WW3, to stop global warming.

I saw this as a kid and didn't understand what was so funny about Arkin searching her bag...but the adults were roaring.

Alan Arkin's work in this movie was genius. The movie is comedic genius. Excellent writing and directing. Did not miss a beat over the whole hour + 20 minutes. The part here, where Arkin understands the pronunciation of Glocester is a gem. What foreigner WOULD know how the locals pronounced it. Genius.

Just hears Mr. Arkin passed. He was the heart of this movie. Jewison demanded he be cast even though Arkin had never done a film before. His portrayal was exquisite. His accent, comedic chops and acting deserved an Oscar. I loved when he said, " Whittaker Walt. "

Its a minor inacuracy but worth mentioning, not a single russian would be able to pronounce glocester right but funny thing their russian map on a sub in the begining of the film actually had it written with a right pronunciation. Great movie regardless. I was amazed that captain was austrian actor and didnt know any russian, he sounded as if he was from moscow.

Some years ago a friend brought me some 16mms films he'd found in a piano. One reel was behind the scenes of The Russians are coming. I still have it.

Been watching and laughing since seeing it in the theater in 1966. Some of the best bits are tiny cameos - Doro Merande as Muriel Everett, the guy with the runny nose at the airport, the guy who says "C'mon Norman, they're opening up the bah", the other guy who says, "It's all over, we don't stand a chance, not a chance," the immortal Fendall with the sword "every second man go to your car," and of course, Jonathan Winters' face.

Came here because I watched this for the very first time and lost it at this scene. Arkin and Reiner killed it. They don’t make movies like this anymore. 🤣❤️

Excellent film! Not very funny for me but cute and interesting. Actors really did a great job and their Russian is good but (2:00) "Пришлите сюда пулемет" means "bring the machine gun" :-) Greetings from Russia.
