I bought this and a couple of other Rutles records almost by accident back in the 90's and never bothered to listen them until about 10 years ago now I consider Neil Innis to be a true musical genius may he reast in peace.

This album's not half bad, IMO. The best of the Rutles' Beatles pastiches and a great 60's music homage in its own right. Of course, if you want the grooviest and most inventive 60's parodies check out the two Dukes of Stratosphear albums (by the mighty XtC) which are good enough to pass as long lost psychedelic/bubblegum pop classics from that era. Fab!

What, you mean you wish all the other songs on the album were never released? Actually, IIRC I once had a 10" single featuring just it & two or three other songs. Maybe that was exclusive enough without giving the poor song "Lonelyphobia"!

@@kenlieck7756 You misunderstand me. Wish it was released as a 45... And the string part in the middle is just as beautiful as Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby.
@kenlieck7756 Жыл бұрын
@@bgbstrm2352 I was kind of joking, but I did think it was the B-side of "Shangri-la in 1996. However, just now I looked it up and the B-side was actually "Joe Public". For the record (ha ha) the only other singles released since the movie aired were "I Must Be In Love" b/w "Doubleback Alley" and a one-sided promo-only 45 of "Let's Be Natural", both in 1978. (There was also a not-anticipated 45 by Dirk & Stig of "Ging Gang Goolie"/"Mr. Sheene" around that time, if you count it). But in short, the amount of publicity and push the Rutles got from their record labels was enormously close to nil.
