Why is he so good at pulling out those melancholic and yet somehow satisfactory feelings like pain, loneliness, unseen, unheard, etc. He's so good at stoic mentality and showcasing it. The Place Beyond the Pines scene where he’s holding Jason is such a perfect moment. That scene made me cry as a daddy, the little sweaty hairs sticking to the back of Jason’s innocent little head. It reminds me of those moments where life was so unbearable and just holding my son in that moment and how it gives this weird sense of being comforted by that sweet baby but also being terrified of the future and wondering if you’ll be able to take care of him. If every man watched and understood that movie and how important and worthwhile and difficult fatherhood is the world would be completely different in 1 day.
