Looks like a modern version of many antique roll crimp tools. Why mount it on the cart? Why not use it when reloading?

I’m really glad you asked this question because I realized, during the editing process, that I didn’t really cover why this was important (although it is covered in my original review of the little red sizer). Basically the shotgun shell can expand over time; it’s why I’ve always sized the tip just before I put the shells in my belt to go to the line. Now, having said that, a lot of folks do use a sizer at home with good results. It’s one of those “your mileage my vary” kind of situations. Hope that explains it better. I’ll pin your comment for others that have the same question.

I load BP in trimmed AA or STS hulls and roll crimp with a BIP roll die in drill press. Leaves a nice small chamfer on the load.

Great review. I have been using a Ryder Shotshell sizer for almost 2 years now. While yes it is expensive, the craftsmanship and functionality make it worth the price. For me, it's a must have accessory. The out-takes at the end where great, thanks for including them!

You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed ‘em. I do agree it is worth the price - it’s a well made product!

I have a very old Mec 600 Jr that can be adjusted for the depth of crimp and how far into the support die the shell goes when crimped. By adjusting a cam and the plunger you can put in shallow crimp but swage the edge of the shoulder of the crimp to a short taper. The old loader has a cast metal crimping station die and is not going to wear out. I don't know if the newer 600 Jrs are the same. What Mr. Ryder needs to invent is a resizer that I can put my whole body into and come out looking like I'm 26 again!

Thanks for the info Hellgate! Not sure if Mr. Ryder is up to the task 😉 But, either way, I’ll see ya at Westmatch.

While at the Owl Creek Raiders shoot last week, Doc of the Posse, showed me his orange shell tool and how he checks the rounds before a shoot. He is pretty fast & takes care to wipe the bores on each gun after every round. I am learning a little here and there every step of the way and having fun doing it. My new Stoeger is broken after 8 shots but I am fixing it myself rather than lose time sending it off. They did a "quick fix" for a bad hammer and it did not last. The gun is very simple to work on as you know. The quality of the new ones are not there sadly. Built a name and then went cheap in my opinion. I'll be upgrading on the SxS at some point.

That Orange Checker/Sizer is a great tool. Available from Big Iron Buster (his link is in the description box of this video, if you’re looking for one). That’s unfortunate about Stoeger… the one I had years ago was a great shotgun.

Doc Hurd is very meticulous about everything.

@@JEDiTV Finally had to send it back to Benelli so they could check it out. Now, after their gunsmith worked on it, the Stoeger works fine. The turn-around time on their dime was incredible. But, I am saving my spare coin for an SKB.

That is a beautiful piece of work and worth every penny considering the components, finish and craftsmanship. Supporting a local business too. Doesn’t get any better. Thanks for this one Jedi! Also good to know you are a human being after all with the old clean P 😅

I also bought the Slixprings because of your review and use it to check all my reloads and factory shells. You are correct that due to my arthritis, I have a difficult time using it to taper shells. The Ryder looks to be a very well designed and manufactured product and worth every penny. A couple of months ago, I picked up a "Quick Loader" taper die that easily fit on my Mec JR. It only cost 80 bucks. It has definitely helped my "Grimpy" hand load my double...Arkie
@JEDiTV Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard good things about the “Quick Loader”, about the only complaint I’ve heard is that the crimp won’t last long, it eventually expands back out 🤷♂️ I’ve never tried one myself so I’m not 100% sure. I’ve always crimped just before I put ‘em in my belt, whether with the Orange Sizer or, now, with the Ryder Sizer. Thanks for the feedback Arkie, always good hearin’ from you!

That is a really nicely built piece of equipment. I love CAS even though I typically finish in the bottom half of the ranks at best. I’ll stick with my orange sizer. Great review video though.👍🏻
