I had a house fire, and had several thousand rounds of various caliber explode in the fire. I told the firemen before they went in the house, but they weren't concerned at all. Unconstrained shells exploding like this just dont concentrate the energy in one direction just as this video shows, and against their fire protection, there was no increased danger from the shells. I had never thought about it before - Good to see this video to see it firsthand and slowed down!

Interesting video. Maybe similar setup with high power rounds as the crimped bullet in the harder casing may produce different results. Interesting I’ve never seen a video of this done before. However for the case of a misfire randomly going off on the ground it would do even less damage, the shell in this test is being held firm, if there’s nothing holding it then the casing would go flying back, this dissipating the energy even more. Better to be safe though, if you get a misfire dispose of it safely

It is not just the length of the shotgun barrel that causes higher velocity for the shot column. The restriction caused by both the shotshell crimp and the shot wad obturating the barrel creates the pressure required to complete the burn sequence, allowing the powder to create pressures many magnitudes greater than that displayed in the video.

Primers can create 40-60 Bar pressure inside the loaded shell. Smokeless powder requires substantially high pressure level to burn fast, but if there's nothing to keep the pressure (just soft thin plastic shell walls) then it wouldn't burn... That explains bunch of unburnt powder you see after the cartridge blows up.

If you mount that in reverse (shell faces the tripline) about 6-8 inches off the ground it makes a great early warning system and cripples the intruder. But you have to use 00-Buck or Flachete Rounds. Nothing fancy, cheap and works well. And if you can retrieve the mechanism you can use it again. Keep in mind I am speaking about SHTF scenarios here. This is not for regular home defense when you are leaving to go get dominos or some s**t.

Constraining the shell as shown in the video forces the shot and wad forward and only allowed to go side/side or up. i'd go as far as saying that it would be even weaker, the case would blow and the slug would, at best, roll off the table. i have seen stuff like this done with hand gun rounds and what happens is that the case goes flying and the bullet stays where it is.
@TobbeTheDude7 жыл бұрын
You're probably right. Makes sense that the case would go flying since its lighter than the bullet. Path of least resistance and all that.

lol just put 400 grams of gunpowder in a tube, (iron tubing at the very least) seal an end by using a clamp to bend it together and then wield so the powder won't fall out. Also, to ignite, just stick a fast burning fuse in there to light it outside

Then you will have made a "sawed off shotgun" and you will go to jail for a very long time. The BATF & E doesn't screw around when it comes to enforcing this. They will come to your house, shoot your dog, you wife and your son - - just ask Randy Weaver all about it.

In California, a booby trap designed to do harm can definitely get you arrested, and open you up for a lawsuit by whomever gets injured by it, burglar or not. You can however have "trip" systems designed to sound alarm, noise makers and such. A primer strike only would probably be okay, but if someone gets injured, you'd better have a good lawyer and bail bondsman just in case.

It is CA after all. They dont ever want the bad guys hurt, taxpayer though are expendable for some damn reason.
@Ifoughtpiranhas7 жыл бұрын
Actually, every state has laws regarding booby traps and spring loaded "trip" weapons designed to do harm, burglar or not. I just used California as a reference, but a simple Google search revealed that it's basically illegal everywhere.

I actually agree with the law on this one. Its one thing to see a threat in real time and take action with a firearm but its another to have a round on a tripwire that could be forgotten about or kill an innocent person such as a kid meandering around, first responder or utility guy.

I wouldn't recommend this - in otherwise do not try this at home! But when I was teenager, I had some buddies, that had more guts than brains, but they would put bullets, as well as shotgun shells balanced in the crook of a tree, then from a distance of about 50 feet would take aim with a bb or pellet gun, shooting the primer location, depending upon the size of the ammunition & the skill of the shooter, it might take a couple tries, but generally resulted in an explosion & all the kids scattered before the adults showed up to wonder what the heck was going on...
@starlight46977 жыл бұрын
I used to shoot the primers all the time with the BB. I did 30 06 9 mm 7 mm rifle bullets 30 30 . It would just make it pop sound it wouldn't even allowed as a firecracker. Or wasn't enough pressure if you put it in between a tree branch for the bullet to leave the casion. If you stuck it in the ground. Then the bullet would leave the casing and the casing would shred a little bit. Any bullet or shell has to have something around it for it to project has to have backup pressure. Once you do that. Then it's going to come out and it could come out from either end. I know how to make it leave both ends. I can make it come out at either end I want it to you top or the bottom or the sides. Once you learn how to do that you can make landmines. I will not give you the information how to do that. World's already bad enough.

Darin- USMC B- 85-93 , i am 47. When i was young i would set them on rocks and shoot them with my lever action 30-30 bb gun. And i will tell ya, it really honed my skills shooting wise. Damn ,the fun we had growing up. People forget, but dad and grandpa used to buy dynamite and primer cord at the hatdware store. When i got responsible enough to hunt with a real rifle, i would take primer cord and wrap around a tree. Sit back about 300 yds and bang. Pretty cool watching a tree splinter up into a billion toothpicks. Then i had to cut the tree up and split it for firewood. Kifs these days dont know the fun we had.

The parimeter alarm is used when camping, by using a blank shell or just a primer. If an animal trips it it can scare it off, or mainly it will wake you up when you are sleeping, so you can deal with what ever tripped it, if necessary.

I think they’re made to be used with blanks/sound shells, to alert you that someone or something big has crossed your perimeter or entered your outbuilding. You’re not supposed to use them with live rounds to shoot intruders.
@nunyabitnezz28025 ай бұрын
In fact, you’re supposed to point the device straight up, or away from the intruder’s position.

Very interesting. I once had the spot weld on the mag tube of a Mossberg shotgun fail after a heavy session of skeet shooting. The result, Tha mag plug and barrel fell to the ground as I raised the shotgun to shoot a clay, there I saw red plastic rather then a barrel. From then I always wonder what the result would of been if I hadn't noticed the barrel missing and pulled the trigger.

A bad day... thats what I'd guess the result was.... Even if uninjured, a brown alert moment🤣🤣
