You didn't need the key, you already know that, but also you didn't need to jump to the left platform over the spikes and ride the elevator back up, you could've just thrown the shell to the left and it should have made it, perfectly fine.

He shows where the key door leads. 4:05 It doesnt show the end of that path but the assumption is that it leads to the beginning of the area he kept cheesing. You see a door in that room with the big Koopa. 3:30 And considering he beats the speedrun with so much time to spare that was definite cheese

The thing with Ryu is that his calmness and genuity makes it possible to watch him repeatedly without getting tired. Most LP:ers are fun at start because they are over the top but get quickly annoying. You're literally the only one who I can keep watching.

People claim to have watched you for 3 years, yet they don't realize that a 140 sec speedrun with keys usually means the keys are required. It's likely Ryu found dev skip rather than cheese and that key door probably takes you through more garbage. There's absolutely no way the key door was a shortcut because in speedruns, 99.9% of the time the key is required for progress, it's never a shortcut, it usually is the ONLY way

I think the intended strat to get the last two key coins (which you don't even use) is to throw the shell under the moving block and wall jump off moving block to the small gap on the left, then jump up and over off the moving block again...

From the looks of it, i think the Key Door is actually the intended path, and the "alternate path" be took is actually cheese If you look at 3:54, you'll see there's actually a path set up for him to triple jump into the platform with a spring (which he came from above), which means he should have come from the left instead And the Key Door starts from the left side of the screen, so it probably leads to that path

Although the key was useless, you didn't need to drop down to throw the shell (assuming you wanted the key). You could have just kicked it from up top and the path was set for the shell to grab the key.

I feel like the only reason he passed the level was because of the shelmet cheese breaking those blocks. Because without that cheese, the timer should've been 17 seconds tighter. That path was probably suppose to be a decoy to make you take the long way. I'm sure if he went thru the key door. It would've been much easier then all of that

I dont think the key was supposed to be optional? I dont think the level creator thought that 14:18 was supposed to be possible at all. He probably had some extra nonsense with a powerup that would allow you to drop down. That, and the shellmet cheese at 21:39 (to get around another wrap around to go through the same area a second time with a p switch) makes for a perfect cheese buffet. Great work Ryu!
