no! A kick in the ass would have been nice prices, like any more experienced IT person should know from the past. There was a time, AMD had awesome fast CPUs for less than 200 bucks, very very close in performance to the "Hi End" parts. Today, they are making smaller and smaller chips, even cutting full chips into parts to make multiple CPUs from one die to make more money. Before ATi was bought by AMD, even the ATi cards were mostly damn cheap for its performance, compared to (mostly overpriced) Nvidias. Until 2010/11 around i really loved AMD.... fair prices, nice performance, future proof with their 3-6 core lineups. Damn a REAL 6 core in 2010 for around 120 bucks!, i used this CPU for around 7 years, but then it was heating wayyy too much already for "little" performance. SInce around 10 years, they are holding so much full size chips back, and sell small, cheap chips for much money. Its like that btw at Intel, AMD and Nvidia, all together. Thats why i will wait for proper improvements, instead of feeding greedy companies. For example DDR5 should be again an improvement since DDR4 was pretty bad and more of a marketing gag. With much better memory bus speed, Intel AND Amd will have to release proper CPUs after their fight with overpriced trashy CPUs. But i dont see any good future, i bet they are going even MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE with really new technology/speeds. Whatever, i could also live with a budget gaming PC, so if you all think around 2000$ is worth it for some midclass gaming PC... do what you want, hopefully you all can afford proper IT tech in the future when you are the reason that prices go up to the roof

Another nice video. And couldn't agree more with the recommendation at the end on the 2600X as an upgrade path. I just upgraded my younger brother in-laws ageing setup from an i3-6100 with H110 motherboard + 8GB 2133MHz RAM to the 2600X with B450 motherboard + 16GB 3000MHz RAM (got all the parts during the cyber weekend at the start of December with the 2600X also coming from CCL for a similar to price as you've shown in this video). He just needs to replace his GTX 950 now with something like a GTX 1660 Super (hopefully in a few months time) to complete the transformation.

I remember when I first got my 1700X when they launched. OC'd the life out of it to 4.2 Ghz just to see and promptly returned it to stock frequency and dropped the voltage like it's hot. I use a set of 2400 Mhz dims with CAS 10 timings. It really hated that ram until the bios updates made it stable. It couldn't run optimized defaults lol. My how things have changed. The system is still going strong too!

Ryzen made it possible for me to build my first PC. I was searching online for cheap xeons when the 1st gen Ryzen was launched. Really bang for the buck, new architecture back then and talking about upgrade path it's a no brainer. I waited for the price to go down then Zen+ came out, waited a little bit more until I saw r5 2600 prices became affordable enough for me. Paired it with a cheap rx590 and I am now a happy man.

That was my computer a couple of months ago: a 1800X and a Vega 64. I've since moved to a 3950X and a 5700 XT. Please note that, afaik, the 1800X comes without a fan when new. Always check the part number, if it ends in BOX it has a cooler, if it ends in WOF, that means "without fan".

HIGHLY_DEVELOPED_ BS_DETECTOR I would say that the 2700 is definitely a great cpu. But I’d rather save up a little bit more and get the Ryzen 5 3600. But you’re correct the 2700 is definitely the sweet spot.

what voltage for 4.1? mine's already at 1.35v for 4ghz and i don't think it's worth it going higher. heck, even 4ghz is probably not worth it as i can get 3.9ghz with only 1.275v. but i do it anyway because my computer is rarely at full load and i only changed pstate0 anyway. [edit] upon some new, quick testing, mine seems to get reasonably stable at 4.1ghz with 1.38v. it's too much though, my cooler can't handle that and i need my cpu to be able to handle full load on all threads for minutes to hours at a time (3dsmax renders)

@@1234legomaker What if the only demanding task you are going to use the PC for is gaming? Would you still reccomend saving up extra for a 3600? Because from what I've seen the gaming performance is very similar, while there is a significant price difference. I'm still new to PC building/components...
@1234legomaker4 жыл бұрын
Banana Man to be honest it really depends on your needs. If you only want it for gaming and don’t want it to spend the extra $40 it makes sense. Also this is the good thing about Ryzen since they use the same sockets. So if your current cpu isn’t doing the job, upgrading is very easy.

I recently switched to the red team. It was a close call between the 2700X and the 3600X, but went for the 2700X, because it was significantly cheaper at the time and is better in multi-threaded apps with it's extra 2 cores. Quite the bargain. Now all I'm waiting for is a beast of a GPU to pair it with, I wonder what 2020 will have in store for us price/performance hunters.

Where I live at (and at the "local store" which is the largest in the country, Portugal) the 1800X costs 190€. I got the 2700X last week for 183€ on sale, usually costs 224€. Both are brand new, from factory and everything. Tbh I feel like the 2700X is the better choice. It has better performance on pretty much every scenario, and it comes with a cooler. 2700 non X is also a great deal, but the 2700X is got a better cooler and slightly better speeds out of the box for anyone who doesn't want to do overclock. But for anyone who is just gaming, Ryzen 3000s, the 3600 to be exact, offers better gaming perfomance on 1080p, including some better 1% and 0.1%. I guess it all comes down to the work you will use the CPU for, right? :) Happy new year guys ;)

I'm still using a 1600X overclocked to 4ghz. I can get it to boot and some what usable at 4.1 but it doesn't boot sometimes at that speed. So I left it at 4 and it still serves my needs perfectly. 1080p 60fps is all I want. No point in buying a 5700XT and a 3700X if you don't have a monitor to support anything more than 60hz. I'm using an R9 Nano with my 1600X, which is showing it's age in some titles but still worthy of modern gaming today.

Also got 8 GB ddr3 kingston 1600 mhz for $ 14 , also brand new from a ebay like site. the set is complete now, i just like to have it laying around if my family/friends needs it, u pc nerds know what i mean, there is something statisfying about a mobo/cpu/ram set. I'll wait for SSD prices to drop next year so i can throw in a 500 gb one for abour 30$ hopefully. Ultimate combo for normal desktop usage, ppl who don't game. Hail socket 1155!

I upgraded from 4560 to 1700 recently and what a difference it makes. I don't play games on the computer but have a lot of applications opens alongside AUTOCAD and Solidworks. It is not only smoother in Solidworks but allows me to open more apps at the same time. The only complaint I have is the memory overclock, 2933 is the highest stable frequency I can achieve without failing the Cinabench test. Considering some reviewers can easily achieve 3000+ mhz without a problem, it is kinda disappointing.

I wish I had waited a bit to build my pc when I did, I got this CPU and still use it, it still does great in gaming and the little bit of youtube creating I do. But it wasn't long after it came out the other options was just crazy. I paid top dollar for this cpu cause I got it the first month or so that it came out. I have it paired with a Gtx 1080 Ti FTW3 and I believe this cpu holds me back on some titles, for instance escape from tarkov, I still get 80 - 90 fps but.. another thing that kinda sucks is I purchased the alienware 240hz gsync monitor, I dont know, i say it sucks cause i don't get anywhere near 240 fps in any game that I play, BUT I do believe that in Escape from tarkov i get a pretty smooth experience overall because of the Monitors high refresh rate even if i'm not even reaching 144 fps. I wish I had gotten a 1440P 144hz monitor honestly. Before this monitor I had a 60 hz 4k montior by samsung, and WOW it looked great.. thats one thing that I miss is the HD quality form 4k, being the alienware 240hz monitor is only 1080p I put alot of money into this computer and i'm hoping that it lasts me at least a few more years. The damn GPU i bought is still almost $1500.00 when i check it.. i think I got lucky and got it for like $900 or I never would have been able to get it LOL

I picked up my 1800X way back in the beginning of this year for roughly $225 CAD and I'm still happy with it. I know that the newer 3600 or the 2700X would give me better game performance, but I play games so rarely and sporadically these days, so the performance gains wouldn't really be worth upgrading. And I got lucky with a chip that likes to OC to 4050 MHz so I don't want to pass that up.

I grabbed a 1700x just as the 2nd gen Ryzens were coming out for a song. It performs great in games and general productivity and I don't think anyone who has one should need to upgrade - I'm even rocking a model GTX1060 6GB which for 1080p gaming is still fine. Considering even 4th generation Intel CPUs can still game perfectly well, this really is a no-brainer. For gamers, I do think a new 3600 is probably a slightly better buy than an 1800x/1700x
