Ian! Again well done and thank y ou for your videos! You mentioned being concerned about the bee shit, that there is more of it than ever before.. But i also heard you say its not Nozema that they are normal shits just alot of it. My answer to your concerns, You have become and excellent bee keeper and because you manage to overwinter so many bees in each box successfully you are seeing the result of that in the amount of raw poop available after the winter. Does that make sense ? I think you are keeping so many alive and well that you are seeing their presence in their shit :D

That is something that I had not considered. Hmm, isn’t that just the most interesting thought. So you are saying it’s not a sign of distress but rather a sign of abundance. Let me think on that one. Cheers!!

@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Will you test areas in that yard for Nozema just to be on the safe side ? Would hate to see if it spreads when Rain hits those buckets like before. But man O man that is a lot of $hit

Box o bees indeed. I'm eager to see how the brood pattern and amount of brood is next week or so. Seems like they had to be laying steadily all winter with all the bees you had on the floor, and now the boxes are still full.

Dung volume increase: 1. Has your total population of poopers been as high as this (or recent) years? 2. Could it be the aggressive (to my eyes) emphasis on end of flow protein supplement and syrup that has become the norm? More bowels and fuller winter bellies would each yield greater volumes, right?

All that bee poop on the hives and equipment. Full of yeast and nosema from being cooped up for the winter. Does that effect the bees the rest of the summer being exposed to those spores on a constant basis?

@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog I've had nothing but record losses from them. Im sorry. Kona has treated us the best. I'd say I've lost about 5k from bad Oliveraz genetics. 12k from JP, 4k from Strach. and nothing lost ever from Kona. Whatever reason they seam to pull Queens too early and they become drone layers if they are from California. sending my stocks in to be tested and have their Spermatheca studied each. The facts are in the Slides from the labs. Anything that comes out of California is pure garbage imo.

Last summer was my first year feeding a large amount of pollen patties post harvest, and I immediately noticed a larger amount of crap everywhere (and winter shed incontinence in general) even though our hive strength is slightly higher on average this spring. I may have left them on a little late, and some hives I know I forgot to check for leftover patties before they went indoors, our inspection did seem to correlate higher levels of incontinence with the leftover patties.
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog5 ай бұрын
Yes I’d say I agree with the coronation of lste feeding patty to poop. I’m strict with the feeding to stop early, nothing in September so they have 2 months to cleanse before winter
