After those barrel loads of bees that died I wouldn't get rid of anything, but then I've never seen that before! Got sucked in a couple of years ago when I was ill and to take my brain out of my reality I started watching swarms, cut outs and the hypnotizing marches (still my favorite) and morphed into watching the hobbyist to commercial keepers. Fascinating how the same temp from Canada down to Southern States creates such different reactions. Still haven't figured out why, but it sure is curious. Equally amazing is the volume of a bee poop! Impressive.

Would a tray feeder for chickens with a top covering the material from rain or moisture give more area for the bees to fill up and not be fighting for a place at the dinner table? 3 or 4 foot long.

you mentioned you are seeing about a month ahead of schedule and i think were about the same, maybe 3 weeks here in NY. i'm thinking about pulling off some strong nucs next week as ive been seeing drones in my colonies for a while now, and some of my girls are packing lots of brood in their double deeps. swarm season is gonna be crazy this year, and fortunately i love picking up swarms!

Now if you can get your buyer to accept totes as well as barrels. You aren't going to have the time to handle individual barrels.... So, will you add yards (and distance) to make sure you have enough flow to keep this new army fully employed?

It rained in white fox today . We are Supposed to have nice weather for 3 weeks ! I looks wonderful there . Raccoons tore the screens off of about 20 pails in one yard a few years ago . It was a waste of a lot of sugar syrup .

I don't know what wild colonies survive up there. It may not be a silly idea to give some drone frames and flood the area. With genes you like. Did you work out what the break-even point is, on the large buy of packages last year?
