47:20 I have a slightly different interpretation; it seems that Saint Sabbat was remade at two separate places at first. On Hagia after the psychic weapon at her mausoleum was activated her mind/memory/personality was imbued into Sanian along with some foresight (as that's the entire Reasion She's on this particular world). But her More Raw powers were with a Herodor girl with perhaps her recognisable aura as it were, hence why this girl died the Imperials were distraught as it is presumably similar to if a Saint were to die. With the girl's death the two halves were rejoined into a single vessel and the Girl who was Sanian now became the Saint Sabbat reborn with her memories and power now whole. Gaunt now felt the presence of the Saint where he previously did not, it is rather curious as to why such a thing happened this way and not just have it all be remade at once but then again this is entirely plausible when dealing with shall we say Emperor given Thaumaturgy or Theurgy that such power follows it's own rules and quite possibly in defiance of all logic or "normal" warp based abilities.
Ай бұрын
@@cnlbenmc does make sense. The death of the mind and the death of the body are two main ways that a psychic vessel is possessed by a controlling entity, whether benign or malignant.

With Gaunt's ability to make enemies and have his men go behind his back, I am now convinced that it is he, not Ciaphus, who survived and got his rep through pure luck.
@maddlarkinАй бұрын
Ciaphas is very much an extremely competent individual, not only in personal combat (a mention here of course for Jurgen Ex Machina who must not be forgotten), but also at the tactical, strategic and political level, however he panicked and ran during his first combat encounter against Tyrainds (which I mean at 18 odd with no field experince is fair enough) but that singular moment combined with his own awareness of his manifest character flaws left him with a massive case of imposter syndrome that would hold the rest of his life as he saw every action he ever took subsquently through the lense of that one instance of cowardice. Gaunt by contrast while gifted in the martial fields, for a politcal officer it was his weakness, he always acted like a man with something to prove (probably the whole uncle thing) and it got him in trouble as it clouded his political judgement a lot more often than it should of, speaking truth to power is all well and good, but he never left himself the wiggle room that he might be wrong or to take the nuanced, with Guant it always had to be an absolute as oddly he had a lot more of an ego than Cain and it got him in trouble.
@rustkarlАй бұрын
Cain was an interestingly competent and humble man, a bit more cautious to the point of near cowardice at times but undeniably capable beyond his lucky streak. Perhaps first and foremost was his aptitude as a Commissar to both inspire his men and make friends with the right people. Gaunt on the other hand was notoriously bad as a commissar, frankly of the dual rank he held, Colonel suited him better. It’s not to besmirch his character but he had the terrible habit of recklessly making enemies almost wherever he went. It’s just lucky for him that the Tanith First and Only were as a whole a more proud and scrupulous people to not try and throw him into the fire too many times until he could prove his character to them.

28:14 I gotta ask; does Dan Abnett have an obsession with Bangalore Torpedoes (or tube charges as he calls them)? As I found it rather incongruous that the Saint showed up her with a gold plated one she used to destroy a Heavy Tank. Maybe some kind of Master Crafted Grenade or Melta Bomb would be more fitting. Or even as Sgt Cyrus intended a Satchel Charge. I don't think I've ever read the things being used as they'd be intended as for clearing battlefield obstructions by sticking them together one on top of another and slid underneath or through an obstruction (The beach scene in Saving Private Ryan perfectly showcases this before they got underneath the concrete blockhouse).
