When I took mine to my local dealership for the replacement, the mechanic told me they do the same thing they do for transmission rebuilds, cab off. They just lay a wooden pallet across the frame and put all the parts on it. I had them replace the serpentine belts on my 2019 while they were in there, my truck had about 87,000 on the original belts. From the looks of things, I’m glad mine was under warranty. Glad everything worked out with your title, someone will get a well sorted truck.
@Shouse-life2 ай бұрын
Sounds like a lot of work pulling the cab, Especially when i don't have a hoist. It definitely tore me up leaning over the front end all day. I eventually just climbed in the engine compartment and stood on the frame to put the top end back together. Worked out good though
@jimmyhorton82972 ай бұрын
@ , yeah I have no idea how easy or difficult it is to pull the cab on those trucks. The dealership I used said they do at least 12 to 15 a month. I’m sure that mechanic has it down to a science.

I’ve done two of these cam phaser jobs on the 3.5 ecoboost. The first one took me about 10 hours. The second time I did it in about 7 hours. I bought the parts through Fairway Ford in Canton Ohio and they cost around $800. That was one year ago though. I hope I never have to do another one.

I have a 2023 F150 with the 3.5 Powerboost that I purchased new 1 year ago, I am definitely thinking of getting a Ford extended warranty after seeing the low miles these cam phasers went bad. My truck only has 8000 miles and has needed a few repairs already and is in the shop now with transmission issues.
@Shouse-life2 ай бұрын
I’m not sure the cam phaser issue is that common on the new ones. All the parts I installed were for the 20 and newer. But the trans I get. The 10 speeds cool but it seams they all do stupid things time to time. Warranty might be a good idea.

@@burtbacarach5034 Agreed. Twin Turbo Toyota truck engines have been blowing up anywhere from 30-60k miles, I wouldn't buy a new Toyota truck, only a 21 or older at this point. (wouldn't buy a twin-turbo anything anyway, just another complex meth-engine-boosting device that shortens the overall engine life).

Ford sent out a bulletin a while back extended coverage on cam phasers to 100k if I recall correctly. Hopefully mine go bad during that time period!

Have you considering sites like rockauto or carparts for kits like the timing chain / sprockets? I see a set on rockauto for under 700, but was wondering if the Ford parts are known to be of better quality than those from third party sources?

Looking at frontier no turbo simple. Always had Fords now too expensive, complex, and expensive to fix. Rather drive beaters I can fix and drive.

The insurance thing? They pay out, on a "certain percentage", of claims, per year, in the grand scheme. A calculated reason, to justify raising premiums, for "certain" policy holders, or just, to raise them, in general. Just a guess, looking at the disparity, between the repair, and pay-out, in this case. Then again, you have, run down, a little "rabbit hole", with the left front wheel, and cam-phasers, so insurance companies may want to head off, similar situations, with multiple claims, on the same vehicle/accident.

NOTHING manufactured right now in the full size market is without issues. I swear it’s the Feds and their constant demands on the mfgs to hit these emissions/economy figures, which results in overly complex, flawed designs. Just my two cents!
