Boris Alexandrovich Alexandrov, the head of the Alexandrov Song and Dance Ensemble of the Soviet Army (also known as the Alexandrov Red Army Choir) tells about the creation of the epic, patriotic song of the times of the Great Patriotic War - "The Sacred War" ("Священная война"). With English subtitles.
Music by Alexander Vasilyevich Alexandrov, lyrics by Vasily Ivanovich Lebedev-Kumach.
The conductor is Boris Alexandrov.
"The Sacred War" is undoubtedly the song most closely associated with the terrible struggle that the Russians endured during the Great Patriotic War. A.V. Alexandrov wrote this music on 22 June 1941, the day the Nazis invaded Russia. The words are a war cry, and it is said that this song was one of the influences which gave Russia the courage to defend itself.

Well, there is some question as to the origins, but the Russian People at the time needed it. For us Americans, it would be the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" Our civil war was the closest thing we ever had to face that was a comparable bloody mess and we did ours with muzzleloaders Minnie balls, and canister, We had a lot smaller population then. Regardless of our disagreements, Russia was an Allied Power. I will just leave it at that. Leonid you never disappoint, whenever you post it's always a pleasant surprise. One of these days a cup of tea would be in order, some pastry too.

I'm American but also an historian on The Russian Front against Germany.This was quite a patriotic song I must admit.Too bad more people aren't interested in history for this.I really enjoyed the war footage which I hadn't seen before.We must keep history alive for future geneations.
