The conductor is Boris Alexandrov.

Мой отец в 18 лет был призван в армию, прошёл всю войну, был танкистом, был трижды ранен, 2 его брата погибли. Отец прожил всего 67 лет. Погиб и мой свекор при освобождении Украины. Для моей семьи День Победы это святое. Перед смертью отец бредил, звал своих фронтовых товарищей. Эта песня была у него самой любимой

С января 1945 года принимает участие в Великой Отечественной войне на должности разведчика- наблюдателя 6-й батареи 1211-го гаубичного артиллерийского полка 67-й гаубичной артиллерийской бригады 5-й гвардейской тяжелой артиллерийской дивизии прорыва 2-го Украинского фронта. За боевые отличия на войне был награждён медалью «За отвагу»

Эти песни часто вспоминаю.столько было Таких душевных песен и Замечательных певцов.песни эти звучали Дома и на улице .не было у Нас телевизоров и много чего,что есть сейчас.но Мы жили в душе с песней. Шли с ней по жизни.и слова В них живые,не то,что поют Сейчас,мусолят полчаса песню из четырех слов Понятных только поющим. Говорят,молодежи нравится. Подтанцовки,подсветки,сверкает и кружится.раньше,сами видите,стоит певец,просто Одет,музыканты,дерижор. Все.в глотку не запихтвает Микрофон.его у него вовсе Нет.а голос звучит бесподобно.

In the years since I became acquainted with Yevgeny's voice, I would have loved to have a cup of tea and some pastry with him. It is the Christmas Season, and I think he would have done "White Christmas justice. Most of the veterans of the Second World War are gone now. The fellow at 4:30 has sadness about him when you see too much in one lifetime. I am still subscribed, but I have not quit learning the Russian Language or my love of Russian music and film. I am old now, 67, and the things I come to appreciate are far different than in my youth.

They sing with such conviction. It is impossible not to cry as their words hit the heart… True and passionate souls, right there. Sadly, it was lost to us with the fall of the union… Even when things spiraled in the later years, the soviet soul remained. But now? Decades after the fall, it seeps through our hands. And with the demise of the choir some years ago…most of the little that remained then is gone… They ensemble sings some of the old songs again, but it does not compare. There is no feeling, no soul, no passion in their voices. It feels hollow most of the times. Only for a short while, back when I first discovered the ensemble, did I listen to the modern recordings. The strength and passion of the olden days appealing to me much more. The folk tunes and the military songs, there is so much diversity in what they sung. And now…when I compare them, my heart cries. It is truly a shame what has become of the ensemble. It is a shame the soviet soul left us. Where are you now, comrades, where are you now… All of us need you and your wonderful voices. We all want returned the warmth of our homelands. It is difficult not to long for the olden days… To better days, to a return of the folk-spirit, and as always, thank you, Mikhail Leonidovich, for introducing so many people to these great songs and this great heritage. You have made it very accessible for those who do not speak russian and it is a great gateway into further exploration of the many, many songs and artists of the ensemble and of the USSR. Much love,a yugoslav diaspora from the west

Thank you, Ahlyae, for such a thoughtful comment of yours! I agree with every word you say here. I do think we lost a lot - vocal school and vocal teachers in the first place. And talented soloists, of course. Unfortunately, geniuses are not born every year, so to say... The Ensemble lost a lot after Boris Alexandrov left the ensemble. Its golden era came to end after that. But the memory about them all should be kept for the future days and generations. So that people could compare the real art of talent and passion to the fake or weak artists. Those are the reasons why I'm doing all that.
